Fender Decals

I didn't read this whole thread but I'm gonna take a guess here. Everyone under 15 thinks changing the logo is cool and fine, everyone over says it ain't?

Okay, I just want to clarify something. I wasn't taking sides in the argument. I was clarifying Jim's point, as the poster I had quoted in my earlier post misinterpreted what Jim had said. He took it as a personal attack and read into what Jim said, and all I wanted to do was chime in.
Personally, I'm all for putting stuff on your bass to personalize it. I realize it would be easy to interpret what I said earlier as I'm against that. I'm not. In fact, I have a cheap MIM P bass that I've modded up and made it look like a '57 RI (white w/ gold p/g, pup cover, tug-bar, etc...). Is it a '57 RI? Does it play like a '57 RI? Heck no. Not even close. Why did I do it? I think it looks super-cool.
Of course, I'm against fraud, but if I were to put a decal on a bass labeling it as something it's not, I wouldn't try to sell it either.
To the OP, I'm sorry I never answered your question. Personally, what I would do, is do a google search for waterslide paper, then design your own label, however you want. You can make a Fender label for all I care, or you can write your own name. Just make sure you print it out with a laser printer.
Yeah, I actually like this idea ^^ better. Like the Jackass logo posted here a couple of pages ago, only less self-deprecating.
I think it would do everyone of us real good if we pay more attention to our playing, so I totally agree with you on this. It's just that the poster asked one question and it's almost become a personal crusade to a lot of us (not you of course). Ahh, whaddayado.

This thread reminds me of kids (adults) playing in a sandbox. Eventually one of the kids throws sand in the others face, then all the kids throw sand. All the kids get mad, go home and watch Astroboy! Thanks for the entertainment and please keep this tread alive, its a hoot!

I have the Squier VMJ fretted... I'm very happy with it... I'm not ashamed to be seen with it in public... In fact the fact that it's a Squier and sounds so good should be proudly demonstrated to all and sundry...
ps my guitarist and drummer are very impressed with my Squier... they love the tone and really dig the retro look...

People are poking fun at you because changing the logo to look "cooler" actually makes YOU look like a poser.
Do you plan on telling everyone who comments on the bass it's a Squier with a fake Fender P decal? Do what you like, but if it is questionable, don't act so surprised to be questioned.
And here's my official old fart comment so all of you youngins with no experience can tell all us fogies how it all works:
The fact that so many have no problem with the rights infringement issue is just another symptom of the basic, fundamental flaw of character that is EXACTLY the problem with today's society.
Respect is a powerful thing, no matter how small the gesture.
Man up and play the bass you bought. Putting on airs at this young an age only means that later in life you is gonna be one of those guys with a toupe and a tube of grecian formula in his gig bag.

Despite your ethics, I don't think this thread should be allowed on TB as it is discussing an illegal practice. Even if you believe this is not harm/no foul. I am shocked this thread made it off the first page.

I bought this new Squier P Bass recently.
The things that stop me putting a Fender decal on it:
1) I am happy enough with it as a Squier. It's a good bass.
2) Fender have never ever made a bass that looks exactly like this.
3) I have Fender basses if I badly need people to see me using a Fender.
4) I am not so sad as to change the name on a bass to pump my own ego up. It would STILL be a Squier whatever.
5) I refuse to insult anyone else's intelligence by sticking another name on it.
6) Putting another decal on it is misleading people. Whether it is ever sold - or not.
7) Squier deserve the credit for making a good bass. The more good Squiers that are visible, the more credible they will be.
