Fender Japan serial numbers complete

All latest release from Fender Japan now carry the Made in Japan stamp not MADE IN JAPAN. Crafted in Japan ceased to be used last year. The last CIJ release had the "S" and "T" prefix. (Although during the transition period, some new Made in Japan also had the "S" and "T" prefix.

Again, any hard info on which factories are making these?

These changes seem to follow moves between factories. Last I heard, Dyna-Gakki was making the export FMIC basses. Still? No?

I just picked up a sunburst Fender CIJ Jazz 5 string second hand for about US$800 with dimarzio pickups, badass bridge and a gigbag.

The number on the plate says Q 06 9899 (there is a space between the 6 and the 9).

According to [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], this should put it in 2002 to 2004 , right? What confuses me is that it says there should be no gap in the numbers...

The only serial is on the back of the neck. Well, I haven't taken it apart yet. Any info on this?

Also, I thought the dimarzios would be an aftermarket pickup... but reading through this thread, it seems like it could be a factory install? Any info on this? What model would this be? I'm considering selling the pickups and swapping to Nordstrands... and whether or not I do that, I'll probably drop an Audere in this, I can't stand not having an active bass. Actually, the more I handle this the more I feel like defretting it, but I need to keep this as my fretted bass since I don't have any other fretted.

Has anyone developed a 'narrative' website with ALL or most of the following?

• Definitions, and/or differences between MIJ and CIJ;
• List of models incorporated in serial number guide;
• Measurements of various necks at the nut;
• Types of wood in body, body colors w/ photos;
• Types of neck, and frets, fret wire (medium, jumbo);
• Scale patterns found on necks;
• Photos of various headstocks.

I looked up the serial number on my Geddy Lee on Fender's site and couldn't find it, so I emailed them and they told me it was April 2004. Apparently the best way to date Japanese Fenders is to simply email customer support.

Please help me with this.

I am thinking about buying this second hand Jazz bass and I am a littel worried.
I think it is a 75 reissue Jazz Bazz. The serial number is R 05 7648. Its is printed below the Fender decal in the headstock and, aparently, it does not say MIJ or CIJ anywhere in the bass.
I will try to post pictures asap but I am not very good at it.

What worries me is the fact that the serial number is in the headstock and the MIJ/CIJ thing.

Please chime in

Hi, I'm offered a Marcus Miller Jass Bass made in Japan. But serial number begins with R and it says "Made in Japan" on the head stock and at neck base.
From Fender's support page: Invalid Link Removed
It should say "Crafted in Japan".

Do I have to conclude that it's a fake?

No.

I had a B serial number Marcus Miller and it came up as a 1984 SN. It had Made In Japan on the head stock only.

It was 100% legit.

Looks good. They are fantastic basses, I had recently sold mine because I am playing P basses now.

I had the East MM Retro in mine as well. Definitely a beast of a bass. It was my number one for almost a decade.
