Fender Jazz rumours..?

I guess there's a slim chance of a short scale Jazz for the American market.

Mustang! I really hope the next vintage reissue series has one.

You can’t even get one from the Fender Custom Shop. Only options with the correct pickup and rosewood fingerboard I am aware of are the JMJ, which is reliced, and the Nashguitars MB63, which is not a Fender.

So the 2022 model will be a reissue if the 2002 model which was a reissue of the 1982 model which was a reissue of the 1962 model? But will it be called a 2002 reissue, or a 1962 reissue, or a 1962 rerereissue?

Why do we give Fender so much $#!% about not innovating? They just keep rolling out those Precision and Jazz basses, right? But what do we expect? They will keep making them as long as people will keep buying them. And people keep buying them.

Sure, they still need to keep the interest levels up, so they have to keep releasing "new" models, even if they're not really "innovating". Pickup positions shift a bit. Dots or blocks for fret markers. Try a different bridge. A fretless model. A 5-string model. Active or passive. Come up with a new series name. Some new colours. But a P is still a P and a J is still a J.

And Fender do come out with something new every now and then, right? But I would absolutely guarantee that even after 75 years in production, Fender is selling more Precision basses right now than Meteoras. Or than they sold Dimension, Prophecy, Urge or Zone basses in the past.

And why does our scorn seems to be largely reserved for Fender? Go to Gibson's website and you can still buy Thunderbird and SG shaped basses. Go to Rickenbacker's website and you'll see, well, things that look the way Rickenbackers have looked since the 1950s.

When was the last time they had a stacked knobs production model Jazz Bass?

I don't think that's what we're gonna see though because this isn't really just about a new Jazz Bass, is it? We're probably talking about the successor to the discontinued Original series, which means a couple of slightly different spec Ps and Js with the "right" years in the model numbers and a couple of "new" (meaning 50s/60s) colors.

I'm guessing they will revert to more vintage correct specs though, like the AVRI series. Whether they will be as GOOD as the AVRI series is a different matter of course. I've not been impressed with the QC of the Originals and simply changing the specs slightly won't fix that.

Or maybe Fender will surprise us with something really exciting? When was the last time that happened? I'm guessing half the members of this forum wasn't even born then...

I remember when you could buy a P, or a J. Your choice of three or four colors, maple or rosewood fingerboard. Oh, you could get the Precision with a fretless neck. I don’t remember there being a “super dooper” or any other nonsense as a prelude. I guess that when you add passive or active and four or five strings you need adjectives to keep every one happy

I know, I can’t stand have an array of paint, body, pickup and string configurations. They should just take the old Henry Ford approach: you can have any bass you want as long as it’s a black passive four string.

I'm with the others. "Interesting" depends on what it is, but I don't see any wild or reckless deviations and I do expect the price to go up. Maybe not a little.

If the source is trying to sell you a bass he might be trying to sell you a bass at $2450 that costs $2250 today
