Fender Jazz rumours..?

Now that's something new and innovative that I could get excited about. If they did a fretless version of it even more so.
I agree, and I'm a big Fender fan.
. I'd like to see Fender make some basses and guitars with roasted maple necks and rolled edge fingerboards, ala, Sire. Incredibly comfortable necks/fretboards. C'mon Fender, you can do it.

I agree, and I'm a big Fender fan.
They kind of sorta do; some of their Basses have Roasted Maple necks[also choice in Mod shop] some have rolled edges IE; American Pro and Ultra some others also but I am not sure of Both on any Bass.
I know the fretless part of that is just wishful thinking, however it appears to have worked for Ibanez with their SRH500 and the fretless SRH500F which both sold pretty well. All they would need is an electric pickup and some different electronics and you've basically got a bass version of the Acoustisonic.A fretless electric/acoustic bass... I bet they'd sell tens of them.
The difference is that Ibanez regularly tries different things like these and the SR Ashula, whereas Fender rarely does anything different. I realise that whenever Fender does try something different it doesn't sell well enough for them to continue it, but Ibanez, and other makers, seem to be able to do things differently. That probably says more about the people who buy Fenders than it does about Fender.
Anyway…… I’ll say it again, a US made Aerodyne in alder, assorted colour options, maybe blocks, high mass bridge, pick guard ( or not )……. so yea, I’m building my custom shop bass !
The Aerodyne is a solid seller I guess so,
By doing this Fender would not be trying to offer a “new” model like some in the past few years that seem to “disappear “ without a press conference or ….
Also, with the Mod Shop Fender is offering a less expensive way for “you” to make a bass / guitar that offers maybe some of the things players on this thread are “wishing” that Fender would do. As more take this path, they might keep expanding the offerings in the Mod Shop build. Ya know that they will not go “to deep” into the Custom Shop area but hey…. It’s hard to be everything for everybody. The FSO has been offered by many builders that I feel Fender must have done something right ???

I know I’m in a very small minority. But I would love a five string fretless Jazz tuned E up to C for playing my favorite vocal melodies- e.g., Stevie Wonder’s vocal lines with all of his wonderful phrasing sound really good on Fretless.
You beat me to it. G&L Fullerton Jazz Bass is a worthy contender to the current Jazz Bass offerings from Fender. Why shouldn't they be. This is the company founded by Leo Fender.l. His right hand man George Fullerton was right there beside him.
I don't mean to be snarky, but couldn't you just string up any 5 string E to C with a proper nut and setup/intonation?
I don't care where they make it - Aerodynes with color choices and upgraded hardware would be one of my wishes. Maybe some other pickup options too (j/j, p/p, and "standard" p/j).
You might want to try the custom bass route? Warmoth produce some high quality parts.
I recently has a luthier build me a custom Jazz style bass with DiMazio PJ pickups, Aguilar pre-amp , High mass string through body bridge, Warmoth Jazz Bass neck, Shaller machine heads, Shaller strap locks, custom made mahogany body with maple veneer.
I wish Fender would make a bass like this. The closest thing they do is the Fender Aerodine by Fender Japan.
Of course the final result is dependent on the skill of the luthier whether the instrument is on the quality level of an eBay cheapie or a Fender Ultra. Luck of the draw. I got lucky.

Other than something from the Custom Shop, does Fender offer a factory-stock P body / J neck instrument ?? That's the jazz rumor / news I'd like to hear!
