Fender Jino Jazz Bass!

Thanks for your review, I appreciated all the aspects you covered but this jumped out at me... I had no idea there were such things as brass slip on sleeves to deal with split shaft pots! What is this sorcery and where can I get them? I've certainly run into issues like this before (including replacing ones where half had broken off...grrr) and the wobbly knob turn is annoying. It would be awesome to have an easy fix for these.

Sorry the bass didn't work out for you but I'm glad you got to try it for yourself. I'd still like to at some point.

Hi all,

Am really interested in getting this amazing looking bass and am looking to get any feedback I can from long term users.

Has anybody felt the need to make mods to the electronics, pickups or hardware?

And has it managed to become anyone’s No. 1 bass?

Is it possible to get somewhat P-Bass like sounds using some sort of pickup combination?

Cheers in advance for any info!!

Pickups are Alnico 5 Supervized by Master Builder Mark Kendrick, and Fender aka Music Man Stingray Pick Ups .
3Volume for each Pickups.
Fender Marcus Miller Pre-Amp bass and treble boost.
Push/pull Active/Passive and
The Hum-bucker Vol is also push/pull being the only middle pick up only.

I've written in a couple of threads that I'm planning on modding a '70s-style Jazz to have a similar J/MM/J pickup configuration. If someone reading this has a Jino Jazz, could I humbly request a tracing of the pickguard, please? It would be incredibly helpful in measuring out the proper routing. :)

I wouldn't say I'm "long term" but I've had mine for a few months and it's in my top 3 basses for sure. The neck is CHONKY but still comfy. I love the MM humbucker in here. I mostly play with that solo'd. I'm not terribly wild about the boost-only preamp/eq, but I have an outboard pre (Trace Elliot Transit B) that I use to knock off some highs and get the low mids where I want them. Also, it's hard to volume-match between the J and MM pickups. The MM is way hotter, no matter how I try to bury the MM pickup in the body and raise the Js.

Mine came set up BEAUTIFULLY with near perfect fretwork, and flawless finishing. Everything about it is wonderful (minus the aforementioned preamp.) Some reviews talked about loud popping when going from active to passive, or when lifting the 3rd volume knob to solo the humbucker, but mine doesn't do any of that.

The hardware is great. It's all the premium USA stuff. I have given thought to changing out the pre, but it's a very complicated and specific control setup, and it is PACKED in there. I think I'm just going to "leave well-enough alone" in that regard and just enjoy the bass!

I played the Jino for Good Friday service at church and it was GREAT!

And I'm playing the Jino again this coming Sunday. These Fender Japan Js are my top 3 basses right now. I sold a $4k custom bass to fund the Jino and Elemental, and it was absolutely the right decision. Fender Japan is killing it. I have come to the revelation that I just love the J shape, but I still want moar tonez. Fender Japan is checking all the boxes for me.

Just picked up a used Jino from Guitar Center and am loving it but have some questions.

1. The pickups are very phasey, anyone else have this issue and what was done to mitigate this. Pickups still have the plastic on them , I assume they are all stock.
2. There are holes for the pickup cover in the pickguard but not the body, do I have to drill into the wood to install the pickup cover?

1) sounds like a wiring issue. Haven't had any phasing issues with mine. The Js sound like Js, the HB sounds like a HB.

2) Yea, you should pre-drill those if you want to install the cover. I never will, and I'm glad they didn't do it at the factory, personally.

Best of luck getting the pickup phasing sorted!
