If you keep your eye on evil bay they come up fairly cheap from time to time. I saw one go for a bit over a hundred bucks a while back . Had a bad neck but if you have a good one ?
Fretted,
They were made in California. Some people that don't like the JP90 insist the bodies were cut in Mexico and assembled in the us, but the people at Fender tell us they were MADE IN THE USA.Love mine, the tone sits in the mix very well. It is my only Fender USA bass and I don't plan on getting another. This one is enough. I also have an extremely modified Squier jazz bass. This gives me all the Fender tones I could ever need. Bodies made of poplar, maple necks, rosewood fretboards, with standard p and j fender pickups and wiring, Schaller tunners ,light as a feather, heavy in tone, what more could anyone want?
Wolfmancharlie, when I picked it up at GC, they had 2 or 3 of them. I took the one with the lowest serial number. At the time, I was playing a a really nice Precision frankenbass but it weighed a ton. When I downsized to one bass, I kept the JP, although I do miss the P's wide maple fretboard. The JP90 has a nice growl though and is very versatile.
