Fender JP 90 club?

I honestly only use the J pup on mine for coloring the tone. It is the standard j pup from 1990 according to Fender. I'm not a bridge j pup fan on any of them though. This one I have found has its place in a few songs and that's just gravy as far as I'm concerned. Where else can you get an original USA made Fender bass that has the jazz neck, standard pups, Schaller licensed tunners, and is so light you can play a 5 hour gig with it and still be good to go ? All for 400.00. If you decide to pull the trigger let us know how you like it and post some pics.

If you keep your eye on evil bay they come up fairly cheap from time to time. I saw one go for a bit over a hundred bucks a while back . Had a bad neck but if you have a good one ?

I would love to get another one, but I already have 3 basses. When you live in a foreighn country and not knowing when your gonna go back home, having 3 basses isn't really practical. Plus I is poor and shipping would at least be another 100 bucks!

J-pup replaced with a Wilkerson, shielded & star-grounded, but other than that original.

Fretted,
They were made in California. Some people that don't like the JP90 insist the bodies were cut in Mexico and assembled in the us, but the people at Fender tell us they were MADE IN THE USA.Love mine, the tone sits in the mix very well. It is my only Fender USA bass and I don't plan on getting another. This one is enough. I also have an extremely modified Squier jazz bass. This gives me all the Fender tones I could ever need. Bodies made of poplar, maple necks, rosewood fretboards, with standard p and j fender pickups and wiring, Schaller tunners ,light as a feather, heavy in tone, what more could anyone want?

Wolfmancharlie, when I picked it up at GC, they had 2 or 3 of them. I took the one with the lowest serial number. At the time, I was playing a a really nice Precision frankenbass but it weighed a ton. When I downsized to one bass, I kept the JP, although I do miss the P's wide maple fretboard. The JP90 has a nice growl though and is very versatile.

Fretter,
If I had to downsize to just 1 bass it would have to be this one. After my son in law custom airbrushed my JP 90 I couldn't ever let her go. Love her even more now. Have fun with yours. Not many of us who know.

So from this thread- looks like some love for the JP90.

Why are they always so cheap? Just the odd looks? I think certain color combos are very sharp.

Want a P/J to add to my stable - so a USA Fender for 400 or under? What's the catch?

Just happens to be one of the Fenders that nobody on talkbass seems to care for. You have to make sure the neck is ok. Some of the necks have had a bowing problem. It seems to be Fenders answer to Ibanez basses that didn't catch on. Now think about this,1990 Fender USA made, Corona California.Fender USA Jazz neck,Fender Standard J pup in bridge and P pup in neck position. Fender USA pots ,jack, bridge, and Schaller / Fender patent applied for tunners. The body is made out of Poplar or Tulipwood ,same wood different names which is a very light but nice tone wood.the only con to this bass is the pickguard is only single ply and is generally cracked by now. This can be replaced by a couple of places on EBay. I have had nothing but compliments about this bass every time I gigged with it. I loved mine so much that I had a custom paint job done to her . She has a permanent home. Hope this helps. P.s. Don't say too much cause those that know how good they con be like being able to pick them up for 400 anytime.

Nice to see you here audreycashin. There aren't many of us here on TB that own one of these but I know I love mine. Love your colors, that's what mine was before the custom paint job but mine had so much yellowing from the previous owner and cig burns that I just had to bring her back.ImageUploadedByTalkBass1393264089.683112.jpgImageUploadedByTalkBass1393264110.082618.jpg
