My humble opinion: For $199 it is an absolute steal. Very playable. The bridge PU is kinda useless but the P-Bass ones are good enough. I bought one to have something I could take to friends and leave if I had to and I kinda wish I had two.
One thing: They are discontinued and increasingly hard to find new, so I'd jump on it if you want one. And then you can join the Jaguar SS club here.

I‘m still wait for the delivery of my Gotoh gb350 res-o-lite tuning machines. If i get them, i will put all parts together. I hate neck diving basses and with this tuners i hopefully can get my stang again lighter and better weight-balanced. These Gotos should be less than half the weight compared to the genuine tuners. The genuine tuning machines weigh in at 86 grams, together 344 grams / 2 = 172 grams. Should be 0 lb, 6.0671oz or 0.3792lb less. Now meditate about the law of the lever.

Shockingly no that was not the specific reason I was alluding to. Unfortunately I maybe that lone individual out there that can't or shouldn't do that job. I suffer from RA, Parkinson's, and my left thumb, forefinger, and middle finger are completely numb due to a stroke 5 years ago. So if your answer had been you took it somewhere I was going inquire on the cost. Kind of a long way around "Nevermind" as Rosanne Rosanna Danna used to say. I am very envious of your capabilities.

I expected more comments on Hoard than I did on Herd.
But I now must say a bit on Remuda.
I have participated in 3 brandings in N. Montana and even joined a drive from 40 miles south of Canada to Southern Wyoming and not once heard the word Remuda. I heard "If she's played out take one from that group over there" or "If yer havin troubles go get one outta that bunch". But I never heard "If your mount is not functioning properly you may always exchange from the Remuda". What I actually overheard most were wisecracks how the "City Boy's" keester must be blistered out by now.
Those experiences were back in the 70’s when I was much younger, stronger , and stupider. But! I have not had to eat a Rocky Mountain Oyster since!
On the bright side you did prove the old saying "You can teach old dogs new tricks"!

I'm sorry to hear that, I have psoriatic arthritis, hence my short scale Odyssey of the past few years. But whatever it takes to keep playing. I have been playing a bass that I made from strat parts for the past few years because it's really small and really light.
But having someone do that shouldn't be very expensive - Rolling the edges is just taking a screwdriver handle and rubbing the edges of the fingerboard to round it off. And filing the fret edges probably would be done with a little more care by a tech, but it was just running a file along the edge. So I understand why you can't do it yourself, but I bet this would be under $100.
Did you get those Dimarzio's soldered in yet? Let us know how they sound!
I am pretty freakin' happy with the PJ I picked up. So much so that I am loath to change anything(except the pickguard) on it yet. It is super resonant, and harmonics just pop out of it which is a little rare for a short scale. I may still upgrade the pickups, but I don't think I am going to put the high mass bridge on. I'll probably grab one of the hipshot vintage bent plate bridges to keep the weight the same. I just don't want to change the string response.
No, still waiting for the gotoh tuners. Held in customs for 12 days now. This is really frustrating.
I also have some recent medical issues and I'm looking to make my playing life easier so I'm very interested in you Strat bass. Can you post pictures?
Are you in NJ or do I have you confused with someone else? If you are, you can check it out sometime if you want to see it in person. It's in a transition right now, I tried gfs redactive guitar humbuckers to kill some noise issues, and while they did that, I'm not digging the way it sounds, so I have to put the fidelitrons back in.

My sub-short-scale experiments have been with 24.75" scales based on Epiphone styles.

I got the neck that's on it now on reverb, it was a leftover piece from when they were making buzz feiten guitars, it's a nice neck. I think on both videos may still be the original neck, which was from eBay. I have it if you want it, it's not a great neck (though not terrible), but the holes are drilled already for bass tuners and the nut is correct. That's definitely the neck that's on it in my basement video, which was shot the day I built it. It only had one pickup in those videos too, I eventually added a bridge pickup as well.
My PJ bass has 'gone tech', and I need it for a gig in London next month. I called it my reliable trusty bass a few pages back, and now it has gone to the dogs.
I decided to remove my DIY pickguard and increase the bevel on it to 30 degrees. When I put it back on the switch was only working on the bridge pickup. When I got the switch working I then found that the tone control stopped working. Why?!?!?!
I wired this bass with short wire runs. There really is only one way in and out of the wiring in this bass. The switch isn't a Switchcraft unit (I swore it was) but some sort of cheaper import switch. It will need replaced, with a proper Switchcraft switch this time. This requires a rewire as well.

Well, I went against my own advice and put the Fender High Mass Bridge on. The bass has a slightly more solid feeling low end now. It didn’t make a giant difference to the overall tone, but it’s definitely an improvement. It increases the total weight by about 2 oz.
I also sprayed the pickguard with duplicolor vinyl paint which turned out great. I have another guard on order, but I wanted a black one sooner and this turned out pretty well!

Very sexy, especially with the black pickguard! Thanks for that detail on the sound improvement. I'm also considering the G&L bridge. It has a lower section of mass that fits into the body (you have to rout out a cavity) to provide greater sustain - plus locking string saddles. They run about $80 at their online store.
AMJBASS, what was the make on that bridge? Looking to do something similar and have two in mind.
