Fender Mustang Club

Thanks! The ones I was looking at were Hipshot. Now that I'm looking at the Fenders, the ones I'm finding say they are a direct replacement for "vintage-style" Fender basses. Does that mean 3-screw?

Apologies if this has been covered before, but it has been a long time since I looked at gear before this!

My PJ Mustang wiring has hit the end of the road. The tone control stopped working, but all the electrical contacts were sound. The bass then developed a sort of weird internal overdrive/blown speaker rustle.

The stock pots aren't CTS, from what I can tell. I'm guessing the tone pot somehow developed an internal fault of some sort. Time for some new parts.

I've copper shielded my Mustang, so I use heatshrink on all the hot connections to try and minimise the risk of things shorting out. I also use those bare ground wires (the legs snipped off the capacitor) to make everything mechanically solid.

I hope it's okay to post a reference to my other post today regarding a used JMJ Mustang on GC's site. It has some "issues" to be aware of. Mods, please delete if not allowed here. I posted info in the Guitar Center used site thread: Guitar Center used site

The back of the neck has a gouge in it at about the second fret. The finish and some of the wood is missing (about a centimeter in diameter) with a couple of indentations next to the bare wood spot. Looks like it may have fallen or hit something which damaged the back of the neck. All you can see in the pictures is a slightly lighter colored spot. The gouge is not very deep but certainly prominent. The bass is perfectly playable, although on the heavy side, but the neck damage was a total deal breaker for me. YMMV. I know this is a roadworn model, but I have played a few of these is various stores and never encountered anything like that on the back of the neck.

It popped up on GC's used site in Georgia a few days ago listed at $649 so I grabbed it and had it shipped to my local GC. I took a chance and lost the $21 shipping charges, but hopefully this will help others looking for a JMJ.

I am pretty freakin' happy with the PJ I picked up. So much so that I am loath to change anything(except the pickguard) on it yet. It is super resonant, and harmonics just pop out of it which is a little rare for a short scale. I may still upgrade the pickups, but I don't think I am going to put the high mass bridge on. I'll probably grab one of the hipshot vintage bent plate bridges to keep the weight the same. I just don't want to change the string response.

Yes i soldered them in now. DiMarzio Area P with Area J. They are perfectly balanced from String to String and from Pickup to Pickup also. They don‘t colorize and sound very neutral. What goes in comes out. Very good if you like real vintagy sounding pickups. And for the price it‘s a steal. I tried many pickups, mostly the ‚boutique‘ ones but these Areas are upon the best ones i ever had. Next week i can try them in my next rehearsal.
