I really hope Fender does a fretless Player II Jazz, and sells a fretless Player II neck. I don't know if there's a place on their website to make suggestions like that. Do any of you know?

Fender Player II Series - Rosewood is back!

Looks like GC is continuing with the "special edition" Ocean Turquoise they had in the Standard and Player series. Picked up the newest Player II version recently. So new I can't even find it online yet.
I really love the tinted and satin smooth necks on these. The rolled fret edges is subtle but a nice touch too. Strung it with GHS P flats.

I'm hopeful that they put these out as leftys at some point. I'd love to get a P in the Red they're doing.
One thing for sure, it really looks nice !
Can you confirm they now have better quality control and the bass is flawless or not ?
So I've been seeing these OT P's at Guitar Center for years and everyone I tried was a total turd. This one was not. It did however need a setup badly. The strings were a mile off the fretboard. It needed almost 5 quarter turns to get the relief right and I also had to shim the neck. But now it is nearly perfect.
The neck is amazing and smooth. Not sure the weight but it isn't heavy. No neckdive. I'm a big fan of the Player alnico V pickups and these sound great. Overall fit and finish is about as good as it gets. It's a real joy to play.
The only thing I might change at some point is the tuners for HB7's. The stock are fine and do the job but could be improved.
I've tried about six or seven Player II basses at GC since they started coming out and half have been rough and half seemed worth it. So definitely try before you buy, or have a good return policy.
For what it's worth, my Player II Jazz was very good out of the box. I did change the pickups and the pickguard, and put strap locks on it. It has a nice roll on the fingerboard edges, and has a comfortable weight. I play it a lot, it's a great Bass guitar.

The Hi shot HB7 Tuners are a very noticeable upgrade.
In case your not familiar.
They should be a drop in replacement. I think the stock bushings are bigger than the Hipshot ones but you can either request the larger size when you order or keep the old bushing in place.

It lined up. HB7's fit MIM and Highway One basses.

My Player II P is low weight, nearly perfect nut, looks and feels awesome but on the back of the neck where the stripe ends... the two woods are not flush. I was playing on the couch and when I went up I thought, how the #$%^ did I ding the neck? Swung it around and nope not a ding, a factory "feature" sigh.
Still going to bring it to my luthier to see if they can sand or fill it flush. Also is it me or does the rosewood feel finished with something textured? The wood and dots feel the same to me as if it was sprayed after they were placed but before frets.
Lastly like the Yamaha it replaced, the neck is easy to bend so I need more relief than I really need. Otherwise I can fret out if I play open through say 5th fret while pulling back. Does anyone make a bass that has a neck that doesn't move? Not the same I know, but my PRS guitar's neck can't be bent, at all. I swear the glue holding the neck would give up the ghost before the neck does

I own a few basses with roasted maple necks and they simply don't move at all although I live in Canada where temperature and humidity change a lot over the seasons.One of these days I'm going to get a Fender that isn't faulty but not today

I have a Player II Jazz, not a P. I can feel it very, very slightly where the stripe ends. If I hadn't read your comment about yours, I may never even have noticed it. As far as the dots on the fretboard, they feel about the same as the dots in the wood on my other rosewood jazz (G&L JB, USA) when I compared them. I can feel a difference. Does the neck bend? Sorry, not even gonna try that one. I have no reason to. I tested the truss rod when I first got it, and it works. The relief has not moved since I set it in July, so I'm happy with that. I guess for a mid-level price bass guitar, I'm happy with mine, although I've upgraded some things. I hope you end up liking your P. Sorry I should be more precise. I'm not pulling with my arm, just talking about gravity, thumb and finger forces if that makes sense. To be fair I setup my bass quite flat and low
Also got a good look at it today and it's a gap in the glue between the two pieces. Shouldn't be too hard to fill.

Did you do this upgrade yourself? I have a set of those inbound, and I read that the original bushings are a little bigger than the Hipshot ones. Did you just keep the original bushings or use the Hipshots?

I have a guy. They're advertised as made to fit MIM and Hi 1basses though. I'm very happy with them. Precise and very smooth.
