Either there's no longer a way to edit the text of my post why I forgotten how to do it but what I'm trying to find out is where the appearance of the neck pocket seems like anything they could have come from the factory thank you
If you go over to vintage bass world and look at all the neck pocket pictures you won't find anything that looks like that.
I would proceed with caution and be sure that the neck fits well and they haven't taken so much wood off that nothing lines up right.
I would want further proof that it is indeed a genuine fender such as a body date, pot dates, neck date etc.

I'm getting ready to buy a 1961. Precision and have the choice of either a tortoise or a green guard.
My personal preference is for the green guard, but this is my situati
The tourist is 100% intact. And the green guard has a crack by the output Jac
What i'm hoping to figure out is whether I am buying more trouble than it's worth, to get the green guard with the crack knowing that that is an area which gets a lot of action. Due to plugging in and unplugging the cable or if something like that can be fixed?

Well, if you're going for looks and authenticity, you'll pick the minty green (and buy a replacement if it doesn't work out someday.) But if you're going for functionality, you'll buy the tort (even though it's ugly as sin). (Ducks)

I have been on the hunt for an original green guard and original gold for quite a long time. I'm just not a tortoise shell fan unless it's on a sunburst or Olympic white bass.

Maybe cut a 3-inch long piece of flat sheet metal shaped to fit underneath the jack and that single screw hole. Drill holes for the screw and the jack, fit it underneath the pickguard and Bob's your uncle. (Add some epoxy between the sheet metal and the pickguard if you're really inspired.)

Wow!!! You are indeed official!! I’ve been lazy about updating the roster but will have to get you a number and added to the list!!
Which Jazz is which (in the pictures)? (Matching headstock beater vs. pristine closet queen)
Oops - there is only one Jazz in the pics because of my typo! The 65 is the P bass which is in better condition, the 64 is the Jazz with the matching headstock and considerably more wear!

I like the mint green guard. I would reinforce the backside of it with another piece of pickguard material and glue it to the back so it can’t be seen. You may have to remove washers to make the jack protrude all the way through so that you can get the nut on.

Do you have photos or documented examples of a ’59 Precision with the strap button on the back of the headstock?
I’ve seen both “starts in 1960” and “late ’59 transitional” mentioned. Would love to see any confirmed ’59 examples if they’re out there.

I've altered my post, found an 11/60 without one, and a 12/60 that has one.
