Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

This is the thumbrest that was on my bass when I got it. It was refinished and had a 90s era white pickguard. It was difficult to photograph this thing, so I don't know if it's possible to tell by the photos, but does this look old or reissued?

My 62 jazz rest is brown. Original.

So was it random back then if you got brown or black or did the jazz basses have brown and the P basses black??

My '59's tug bar looks black, but if you hold it up to the light is is translucent and has a reddish cast to it. It's also warped a bit on one side.

I think they all have a brownish color when you hold them up to light and look through them (like ExaltBass'). But I was just saying they got brown brown and even maroon by the mid '70s. Compare one of those '70s thumbrests to an early '60s tugbar, and one looks brown, the other looks black in comparison.

@David, no the Jazzes and the Ps used the same tugbars (as far as I have ever seen).

Maybe 96tbird's tugbar is more brown because it's so thin (I have noticed some thin ones too from the early '60s)? The tugbar on my 1961 P is also original, but it's not very thin, the edges are very rounded, and it's black. I can see a hint of brown in it when I shine a flashlight thru it, but for all intents and purposes, it's black.

Hi all,

This thread needs some push of Jazz Bass love I guess. Here is my recently acquired summer '60 stack knob Jazz, 100% stock down to the screws, case, covers, mutes... everything

More pics later ...:)

Can I get number 58 ? That's my birth year ...

Whoa. Not everyday you see an all original 60 stack knob. Has an interesting sunburst too, wide dark rim around the outside.
