I have the answer to spousal approval. I found it easier to get forgiveness than permission.

See, we are the opposite. It's pretty much the only thing we've ever fought over. Now the deal is I save up my gig money and buy whatever i want with that. If I actually needed it for a band I could probably make a case, but this is a matter of want at this point.

I certainly understand. In reality, when my wife was alive, we both made pretty good salaries, so there was plenty for both our expensive hobbies. She never questioned my about my music stuff and I never questioned here about the things she bought for her art projects. The funniest thing that ever happened was when I bought home a G&L SB-2T I bought through the TB classified ads. I told her I was going to sell my Am P to cover the cost. She asked if it was the one she had given me a custom pickguard for as a birthday gift. It was.
She freaked. "You can't sell that bass!, It is my favorite (I play it about once a year). In fact, don't sell any basses. Every time you do, you're sorry you did." I have, since that day, never sold another bass. That's why I have 16 basses an 7 amps.

Mine is definitely supportive of my hobby. But with a credit card and auto loan yet to pay off, I'm not really in a position to make frivolous purchases. I definately feel in the minority on TB with my used rumble and $200 parts bass. Dont get me wrong, I like seeing everyone's bodacious rigs and crazy mods. I come to TB voluntarily.

I'm in the same boat my friend. The wife & I don't have more than $3.00 between us but I've got my bass & my rumble 500! so there's that.

And that's pretty much the reason why I got the Studio 40.... GAS proofing my future.....although I would like a Jazz Bass....

And that's pretty much the reason why I got the Studio 40.... GAS proofing my future.....although I would like a Jazz Bass....

But now you have to decide whether to chain a 100c, 200c or 500c off of the Studio 40!

Every day when I wake up I give thanks to the bones of the dead space gods for giving me the wisdom to leave my ol' lady and buy speakers with the money I was solving her problems with. If everything continues to go as planned I'm gonna have a $8000 live sound setup by the end of the year. I'd have never been able to eat sour kraut and bean soup for weeks on end with Dixie around.

Which Broughton model HPF did you go with? I noticed they have a couple different models.

I just ordered the $95 one. I will let you know how it works for me in a week or so.

So now we have to buy high pass filters?

Yes. I have a Mesa WD-800,Subway 800+ and a Rumble 500 set-up( two.. 500/4 x 10 cabs and 500/head).. The cabs are a lot easier to deal with mud and boom -wise with the HPF ( and up off the floor). HPF's are a boomy cab's (or a venue with poor acoustics) best friend in head or pedal form..

For my TB brethren who don't want anything on the ground between them and their amp: the Broughton Always-On HPF does not have a footswitch and is so tiny and light weight you can set it next to or on top of your amp(or hang it from), use 1-2ft patch cord into it from the amp, and run your bass cord from it through the handle(so you won't pull the HPF off of you amp) into your bass. Ez,Pz!

Dial it in based on the FOH mix, not what you hear on stage.

Oh, and PLEASE, put your amp on a stand or use a wedge (like the adjustable [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) to disconnect from the stage and more importantly, to get the sound away from your knees and closer to your ears. Btw, the On-Stage wedge folds flat for transporting.

IMO/IME, based using my Bro-ton Always On, best piece of kit I've added to my rig. Wouldn't leave home without it! The other bass life changing happenstance was to switch to an active 3-band eq '83 Ibanez Musician PJ. Along with the HPF, I can beat any rig/venue into submission.

Your wish is my command! Since the Studio 40 has 2 (stereo) FX Sends it can easily enslave 2 other (mono) amps, such as my Rumble 500 combo and my Bassman 500, for a Super-Stereo rig. Have yet to gig it, but the gig must be stereo worthy.

37 years ago the wife and I took turns balancing the checkbook. She "won". Now, I have no checks and don't sweat any balances! I'm such a "loser".

The Studio's got a good volume knob. And my house isn't as close to my neighbors' houses as in my old neighborhood.

Well, YMMV, but I had a MIM Fender and a Rumble 500, and LOVED 'em (still do!), before getting my CIJ Fender and my MIC Fender and my Bassman 500, my Vox VX50BA, and my Rumble Studio 40, and ... and ... hmmm, I know I'm forgetting a few things? Love all them, too. Now I have absolutely NO need for a Rumble 800 HD, and all the extra cabs it would require (for me) but, guess what I currently lust after? I can only HOPE that YMMV!
