Fender Rumble Club

Hello all! Does anyone have experience with Stingrays through a Rumble 40? I had an R500 and really, really liked it. I thought that I needed to "upgrade" and bought a Bergantino rig. I really like it, but am looking for a small amp to use at low volumes in my basement.

I know the age old problem of getting good tone at a low volume, but I'm more concerned with the Stingray (Classic and 3 band) farting out the R40.

Thanks in advance!!

I've played this(Les Paul 5er w/ Barts)through mine w/o any problems-as long as I keep it down. Remember: with Rumbles you'll prolly hafta to EQ BASS at less than noon, lo mid-noonish, etc. In other words, different than a lotta amps.

You don’t need to worry about the preamp in the StingRay farting out the Rumble 40. I’ve used different Musicman basses with Rumbles for years, and never had a problem.

The StingRay preamp doesn’t run particularily hot to begin with, and if you should run into problems, just adjust the gain knob a little. It’s quite difficult to clip or distort a Rumble anyway.

You can then EQ to taste, both with the Rumble EQ controls and those on the bass, until you find your desired tone.

Thank you!

Anyone know if these are being updated? It seems like the Studio 40 and 25LT are a little harder to find now.

The pandemic has definitely slowed the influx of new equipment from overseas. I bought a Studio 40 a couple months ago and had a hard time then finding one in stock - but eventually did. The big online sellers - SW, MF, etc. - are taking preorders and when they get some in, they are gone quickly. Just checked and SW has the LT25 in stock right now, but not the Studio 40. CME has ONE Studio 40 in stock if you're looking to pull the trigger!

Thanks! I just pulled the trigger on the regular 40. I’m psyched!

Pulverizor, yes i do need to increase my SPL. The 40 is fine indoors but soon as its outside, it just disappears behind the drums. we are playing on friday night so i will use the guitar players rumble 100 and then i will decide how much i need. But i am incl..........

Well i changed sides. I auditioned the blackstar500 and i was impressed but not enough to buy. It pumps all right but way way overkill for my usage So i ended up comparing the rumble 200 with the u250. The 250 has just that little more in the features department. The kicker was the price, i got a very very good deal. So really, all i can say is you cant really go wrong with either. If you have a 40 and want to step up, bypass the 100 go straight to the next level. For now, the 40 is my studio amp , till its sold, lol.

@Freeze Andy Those were my final choices when looking for an amp as well. I went with the Rumble 500 because I couldn't audition a Blackstar in person. I loved the sound of the Rumble and the ease of adding a cabinet won me over. I have heard great things about the u500 and 250 as well.

Yo, Jawa, man! Sweet! @Jawaba, you are now member #1255 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome to TalkBass in general and to The Club in particular. See the Rumble Club Wiki page, linked in my signature, for lotsa Rumbling info.

Tell us more of your bass experience and especially your Rumble journey. F'rinstance, what kinda Silvertone is that next to your Rumble? We have all kinds here. What's your story.

40?
... ...

Yes. Wanted something want better for practicing and need to keep up with a guitar player who has a 100-watt amp

See the Rumble Summary Info Chart for model comparisons if you're considering buying a gig rig. I can most heartily recommend the Rumble 500 combo in that regard, since mine has been my "big rig" for over 6-½ years now!

Now is time when we all must . . . .

Rumble On!

I would say 200 watts peak, not continuous.
Don't most amp mfgs rate their amps for peak power?

Here's how 2 v3 R100 combos can chain together to get 100watts + 100watts. This is the physical connection:

This is the logical diagram (modified from page 10 of the OWNER'S MANUAL):

The little switch built into the EFFECTS RETURN jack (A) disconnects everything above the blue line, which includes every user-adjustable control including overdrive, three little tone profile buttons, all the knobs. Every user-adjustable control setting on the master (SEND) amp is sent to both amps -- master and slave.

As an aside, there is a lot of Rumble magic happening between the FX RETURN and the POWER AMP, but we users have no control over that. There's some pretty impressive magic in the SPEAKER CABINET SIMULATOR circuitry (B) which allows Fender to use inexpensive and light cabinets to produce that big sound we find so addictive!

So let's say you have 2 Rumble 500's...link together using this method allows TOTAL contol over both units? The one controls all EQ, etc. and Total Volume Control? Is this correct? Thanks!!

You know what's crazy? Yesterday around 4:15PM on this very thread I told you that I pulled the trigger on a Rumble 40. I'm working from home and setup a nice little area to work from. There was a cozy little spot where a small amp could fit. Welp, today at 12:30, that amp was delivered!

I am beyond stoked! I really, really sounds great! It's crazy how thick of a sound it has at a very low volume - exactly what I needed!! I would post pics, but every-time I try, Safari shuts down. Gotta love Apple.

Received the silvertone bass and amp beginner kit about 7 years ago as a Christmas gift. Never played much until recently. Watching some bass players on YouTube and realizing how many free sources were available to learn inspired me to practice more.

Loving the Rumble 40 so far. I can "feel" the sound of bass instead of just hearing it. I'll be upgrading my bass after I make some more progress.

I use a free imgur.com account and then just post links.
