Fender Rumble Club

My master volume has some static only when I turn the knob while a note rings out. If I am not playing, it is silent. Yeah the 500 is not really a practice amp, but you can turn the knob down on your P bass (thats what I do when I'm practicing late at night) or turn your gain down. I plan on getting a Rumble 40 for my late night practices/small gig amp. The 500 is a really loud amp!
I got my 40 when I had some problems with my 2000 Bassman 25(since cured). After that I got my 100. Nothing against the 40, but between my 100 and my 200c, that's all I need. Unless you really need the 40 for space considerations, just turn the 500 gain down.
FWIW, this is my practice amp as mentioned b4. 200W/2x15. I turn it down.

Rumble 100 for my stage monitoring (I line out to PA) pre usually at 9, but I had it all the way down on Sunday, Gain around 10. We keep our stage volume at a reasonable level.
Rumble 25 for practice at home, volume control has very little taper. It goes from soft to loud around 9 so I cut the volume back on my active bass sometimes.

Sorry gents but, as much as I enjoyed playing through it and the ease of taking it where I needed to without breaking my back, reluctantly I have recently sold my Rumble500. No matter what I did it was just slightly too muddy and I just could not get a clean enough sound out of it that I wanted no matter what I tried. I gave it a full year before I gave up. Im no longer playing out and the power that it had was no longer a necessity as well. I've opted for building my own 1x10 set up with an Eminence legend bp102-4 and I took a chance with a Trace Elliot Elf 200w compact head for at home. Absolutely amazed at the low end and the clarity this little head put out. Sorry to disappoint, I'll still be dipping in here there to check stuff out.

The other day I turned the gain off and just used my volume and any muddiness cleared up. I always thought you were supposed to have the gain up to hear anything but apparently you don’t. Kind of surprised. Very clear.
On my P____ MAX110, no gain=no sound. Ilike 7ender's method much better.

Quick ad-hoc poll Rumblers: Where do you run the gain control?

9 o'clock.

I guess I just always associated Gain knobs with overdrive distortion (which Rumbles do very well), since my first several guitar amps didn't have that. So, for really clean tones I usually turn it off, to 7 o'clock. But, for warmth I go to 9 or 10-ish, and for distortion (with or without OD, depends) I kick it up to 1 to 3-ish! Oh, and like @GoesThump said, it can vary with different basses, too. Gain is very much a "tune-to-taste thing.

Hi folks, long time lurker. The info on this site led me to buy a Rumble 500 combo, and the one word that comes to mind is WOW! I haven't played in almost 40 years, but the days of lugging a 100+ pound base amp around are long behind me. This little marvel not only doesn't break my back, but it doesn't break the bank either. Couple that will a marvelous tone and plenty of oomph for gigging most clubs . . . I may have reached total consciousness before reaching my deathbed. May I join this wonderful Rumble Club you have going here?

Hi(gh), Sierra! :) We'd love to have you join us! Just post a pic of your Rumble, please, (the only prerequisite) and I'll mint you a bright, shiny, brand new membership number.

Yes, total consciousness is just one of the many perks of the venerable (now almost 7 year-old) R500c model. ;)
