Fender Rumble Club

Quite some time back, according to the Rumble Club Wiki, someone found that settings of B-10, L-2, H-2, T-10 were pretty close to 'flat'. That's what I start with and tweak to the room.(I don't like a lot of treble-my preference)In a a 'boomy' room, I might push the Bright button on for presence. The Vintage is always on/in.
Although I don't use any of the buttons, my treble sometimes ends up lower in a live situation also. These amps get a pretty wide variety of tones with a few simple knobs and buttons. I am only a fill-in bass player these days, and my setting is so if they play something that requires a little more funk, I can bring the tone knob up. Other than that, it is always rolled off. I'm not a trebly player either.

For our song list(mostly 60s-70s rock and ballads), I find the Vintage adds a 'warmth' I don't get with it off. On my bass, I keep the tone at 7 most of the time, going down to ~5 for mellow songs, up to 10 for more rock-y tunes. With the amp knobs being difficult to access* once we start, I try to get everything set to the room before we begin playing. Also, because I'm usually no more than 6 feet in front of the amp, it's not easy getting a sound that I like that works for the crowd. When I'm set up I go as far as my cable will allow to hear myself as the audience hears me.

*The amp is always on a kickback stand to decouple it from the floor/stage.

Except for the occasions it's on that custom stand that has it parallel to the floor. You posted about that just the other day. At least, I think it was you. What stand was that? Oh, yeah. Milquerayte.

I've always liked those kinds of cool amp stands, especially in black like his to match the amp. At the end of the night, flip it over and throw all your cables, mics, and stuff in it and go!

Just played our first gig on Sat night with the Rumble 100. Loved the portability and sound.

In reference to the sound, I recently purchased a TC Electronic Spark Mini boost pedal. Plenty of room on my small pedalboard because it only had my wireless receiver and tuner pedal on there anyway. I originally purchased it to use as a way to balance the output between my two main basses. But I also found I really like the sound out of it, gives it a new depth.

Not downplaying anyone's suggestions to wire two of these Rumble 100's together. But the whole reason for it getting it was to reduce space in my Edge with all the PA and lights, and if I really needed more I can use my Rumble 500. This 100 is plenty in our lineup of guitar/bass/cajon.

 Yeah. One time experiment. Works at another venue, but not there. I'll try to remember to get a better pic.

I painted it black to cover the name of the dairy it came from.:smug:

Ah, yes, Billy-Thor! Sorry, I didn't snap to recall this rig when My Favorite Maartien requested pix. If I had better recollection I would have referred him to your link in the middle of the Connecting Combos Together section of your Rumble Club Wiki page entitled "Using Rumble 40 DI to Control Rumble 200". But, it's great to hear from such an innovator, again!

Folks, keep those photos coming! You never know when you might be the next star of your Rumble Club Wiki page!

Did I ever get a rumble number?

Why, yes. Yes, you did get your very own Rumbler number, Billy berger! A look through the archives reveals that you are Rumbler #1171. Please put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping.

You can also be found on your Rumble Club Membership WIKI page. :D

Yo, berger! Dat's a-nice! @Bill Thorsberg, you are now member #1171 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations on your good taste in amps and in associations. Glad to have you with us and sharing your Rumblings. Please do continue.

And, lest anyone forget, we here are all called to . . . .

I’ve only been playing for a few months but this gear from iagtrplyr has really helped catapult my playing forward. I look forward to talking with members here and learning more about this awesome combo!

Congrats on the Rumble 800! So sorry about that backwards bass…hope you kept the receipt. ;) Now step up to the big leagues and get the most crucial piece of gear you didn’t know you’d need.

Well, fo' shizzle, Shisno! @KaiTheShisno, you are now member #1453 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Please put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here, for general Rumble discussions, and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge. Especially see the TONE APP Support section for lots of helpful Stage & Studio tips.

But for bass modeling discussions, please use your Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800 club sub-thread instead. That'll keep from confusing our non-modeling Rumblers.

So, how about telling us a bit about yourself, Kai, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular. Whatever your situation you're sure to fit right in here, 'cause we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ...

Thanks for the welcome! I just started learning my first ever instrument, the bass of course, October of 2021 and it’s been the one of the best decisions I’ve made! I’ve always really loved music, anywhere from Yes to Megadeth to Rise Against and a bunch in between. My drummer/bassist friend kept trying to get me to try bass and after hearing Nimrodel by Camel, I was instantly enthralled with the idea of learning bass. It took me a bit to track it down since I play lefty, but I found an Ibanez GSR200 only a few hours south, got a small orange crush 20RT from a pawn shop, and messaged an old acquaintance (bassist and singer for a local band, Stop.Drop.Rewind) and got to learning music!

It wasn’t long in that I found this small guitar amp wasn’t going to be enough, and the more I learn the more I want to hear those deep low bass tones when I practice. I asked the Combo Club which combos they preferred and got some great insights (including a nice write-up by you, G-Dog!). Luck had it that Iagtrplyr, who I’ve already made a purchase through for my second bass, was getting rid of his rumble stage 800 for a fantastic price! Just about 5 months in now, I still play daily and have weekly lessons, and I can’t wait until I get to the place where I can start really putting the Rumble and Jazz through their paces.

I hear a lot of good things about the Rumble. I’ll have to see if anywhere near me has both. I’d also like to know if the Rumble Stage is worth the extra price tag.

Whoa! Dude! Did you, like, read my mind? Totally! But, also gnarly! Yeah, no!

I was just writing a description of the difference between most bass amps and the Rumble Stage (and Studio) amps just a few minutes ago!

I dearly love both my Rumble 500 combo (about same cost as Orange 100, BTW) and my Rumble Studio 40 (little brother to the Stage 800 with all same modeling features), but they are way, way, way different devices!

Browse the Stage & Studio manual (PDF) before setting your sights on one of these animals. THEN, if you're still interested, YES! they are very much worth the extra coin.

Vintage adds compression as well as lowering high mid and treble, yes warmth. The vintage kicks up the bass, rather much, though, so does the contour I find.
Do you find you turn down the bass eq when turning on the vintage? To compensate.

I found when turning on overdrive, it cuts bass by about 4:00, ie “4 hours.” So you turn on the drive then readjust, increasing the all important bass.

GP must speak for GP, but speaking for ME, I don't turn the Bass down any more when I punch in Vintage. That's on my stock Rumble 100 v3.
