Fender Rumble Club

Story time.:)
I had mentioned I might be getting a Fender Rumble 60 for really cheap. Well, it didn't happen. He either sold it or never bothered to check his ad to see that I was interested in it. Just as well. Here is a picture of why it was so cheap. I probably saved myself countless hours and lots of swearing, not to mention $$ for gloves, masks, material and chemicals.

Yeah, it was only $40 but...
I though my cats did a number on a couple of my rat fur cabs.

I'm in the process of stripping them, so I can put tolex on them. I don't want to think of how much more work it would take to get the adhesive down enough to be able to put Duratex on it.

So, I went a different route and figured I'm way further ahead.
Rumble 150. Tag says it's birthday was 2013.
I do plan on cleaning & repainting the front grill as that's about all it needs.
I don't think I did too bad @ $150.
I tested it in every way I could think of and it sounds FANTASTIC!
55lbs! At least the casters work good.;)

How'd I do? (I am a rookie with this stuff)
Armorall would make it look shiny new again. Well, to a point! :D

Talkbass friends, do NOT underestimate the Rumble 115 for beautiful tone.

My 2x Rumble 115s have dismissed a lot of famous and expensive cabinetry (you wouldn't believe which ones, but I'd rather not say because it's only my taste/preference).

My latest cabinet purchase is too expensive to give up on. I'll try some EQing to "fix" it. :-(

Oh! That's just nasty! You dodged a hot mess there, Ric. :vomit:. Seller shoulda done more to clean it up, if it even works (which I doubt).

Excellent! Party on, Garth! @rickysbass, you are now member #1712 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

That's a very nice V2 Rumble, riskshaw, just 1 year older'n my 2014 V3 Rumble 500 combo! Checkout this V2 Rumble 150 & 350 manual PDF file to get better acquainted with your "precious."

Meanwhile, how's about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to. ... ... ...

Rumble On!

I'm playing at a club in a few weeks that has this amp as backline. They're calling it a Fender Rumble 100. I played there a while back and I seem to remember that it was one of the smaller rumble amps and was not enough for that venue, but maybe they got a new amp. If it is a rumble 100 I could use that but if it's one of the smaller ones I'll probably bring my own amp. Can anyone tell from this picture which one it is?

Based on the position of the handle, I’m almost positive it’s a 40. The 40 and the 100 are the same with, but the 100 is a little taller and a couple of inches deeper. Due to the foreshortening and the picture angle it’s almost impossible to judge the height reliably, but the handle seems to be placed further to the back in relation to the controls than on a 100, indicating a shallower cab.

Sorry, basss, the Rumble 40, 100, 200, 500, and even the new 800, combos all have the same knobs, so we can't tell positively from your pic which model it is.

However, I'll take an educated guess that it may be a 100, because the 40 is 16.5" wide by 16.5" tall, and the one in the photo appears, to me, to be slightly taller than it is wide, like the 16.5" wide by 18.5" tall R100.

That is certainly just as valid as my guestimate, Jake! The perspective of that photo could be suggesting a taller height, to me, than is actually present; thus confounding my 100 theory. Howsomever, I respectfully submit that the handle position conjecture may also suffer from the perspective distortion, no?

Absolutely, @G-Dog! And what’s more, the assertion on the venue’s website that it is indeed a 100, does weigh against me. Still, I do feel that it’s a bit too shallow for a 100, but I might easily be wrong.

There you go, @basss. Ya get a definite "maybe", either way from that photo.

Good luck! Please let us know who guessed right, will ya?

I'll join in and say it's a R25 with the pic shot with a telephoto lens from the 3rd floor.:smug:

I’m certain it’ not a 500 or 800 because they like showing off their muscles. And a 200 usually looks a bit smugger, whereas anything smaller than 100 just looks small. So it’s a 100. You can bet on that. I don’t bet, but if I did, I’d go looking for a surer thing.

That is a Rumble 40 v3. They use the same grill cloth on a 40 and a 100. In the picture there are 65 rows of darker stitching counting from the top to the bottom. A Rumble 100 has 75 rows. Those ten extra rows of grill cloth measure two inches.

Your mathing is … interesting!
All I did was turn the picture sideways and zoom in on a big computer screen to count the rows. Then I took the grill off my 100 and counted. Then I counted them both again, and then one more time. I'm certain the amp in the picture is a 40. I've been wrong about stuff before though.

My uncalibrated eyeball measurement (I blame the new lenses from cataract surgery) bows to your empirical data method of analysis. I've been looking at pix of 40s & 100s and counting rows since I read this post and I am forced to concur with your result! Congratulations!

Sorry, @basss, maybe they upgraded to the 100 since that picture was taken?

Honestly, I thought you were joshing us!

I had done some rough calculations, and they didn’t add up[1]. But what does add up is your counting. I got 74 black stripes on my Rumble 100, and 65 on the one in the photo.
[1] In particular, 75 rows at 5 rows/inch is 15”, whereas the R100 grill is just over 17” high. But at 4.38 (mine seemed closer to 4 per inch than 5), that works out. Yes, I am a math geek.
TLDR; I agree with your conclusion.
