Fender Rumble Club

Off topic, I know, but it sounds like you no longer have the Viola. I tried one in a local shop once, a few years back, and was MIGHTY impressed with it. I kinda regret I didn't buy it, but oh well. You know how that goes.
Yeah it's long gone. I was young and fell into the ol trap of "it's cool but it's not a Hofner" ...
I eventually DID get a real Hofner, and this was back before they had budget friendly models, so mine was an expensive one! From North Coast Music online as I recall... Anyway it was so expensive to me at the time -- and felt so fragile -- that I barely played it! I still have it in a closet now, probably gonna pass it on to the kid if she has any interest.
But that Epiphone Viola, it was great -- really solid (unlike the Hofner I didn't feel like I could break the Viola if I set it down wrong). And it stayed in tune perfectly. It even came with a hard shell case molded to fit around its violin-shaped body! That was STANDARD back then! The only downside as I recall was the output from the pickups seemed really weak, but I would today chalk that up to inexperience on my part.

Bought a new Rumble 500 about 2 1/2 years ago, maybe, to use while my #1 was being serviced (thanks, @agedhorse). Pulled it out today after about 2 years of storage in the basement, where I store some of my gear. Everything worked OK, some scratchy pots that cleared up with exercising, BUT - the "Vintage" push button really sends a pop through the speakers. Turned down the Master and pressed the button silently several times but the sound remains when the Master is up. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!

Is it a vintage pop sound? Then it’s working as designed! :smug:

BBB, Rumbler #1632, does it only pop once, when pressed? Or does it continue popping, or crackling? Try connecting an instrument cable from the FX Send to the FX Return and see if that helps. If so, here's an explanation and how to fix it: FX Return jack fix

Sorry to hear that your Rumble languished in storage during its entire warranty period. Now, any shop repairs are on your dime. But, if the link here doesn't help, then perhaps a good tech could fix it.

@G-Dog , may I nominate Flea for membership into the Fender Rumble Club?

Hmmmm, ... ... Aki, I've been mulling it over. You make a good case and, ... ... I feel strongly both ways. 😵‍💫🤯😶‍🌫️

On one hand, Michael Peter Balzary, who uses the stage name Flea, doesn't seem to be a member of TalkBass, much less to have posted in The Rumble Club. But, there is a TB member with the username of Flea, though he has only ever posted once in 2004 and doesn't seem to be Michael Peter Balzary IRL. So, maybe it wouldn't be very appropriate?

On the other hand, I know that actor & bassist Gary Sinise was made an honorary member of the TB Variax Club., so there is some precedence for such.

But, "on the gripping hand" 😉, perhaps it could simply be a natural celebrity celebration of Rumbles IRL, without any necessary regard for "appropriateness" or precedence.

So, being the visionary and forthright leader that I am, or not, I put it to the Rumble Membership:

1. What are your thoughts on the proposed admission of Michael Peter Balzary, who uses the stage name Flea, to membership in your TB Fender Rumble Club?
1.a. if in favor of admission, please address whether you think it should be an "honorary" membership, or not.
1.b. If in favor of admission, are there other celebrity bassists you think should also be admitted? Please include photographic Rumbling evidence of their Rumbleness to be considered.
2. Perhaps an alternative to membership could be a "Celebrities Hall of Fame" section added to your Rumble Club Wiki page? Or another alternative may be suggested?
3. There shalt be no "carrots" in this discussion, please. Pertinent remarks, only.

So, let us all, henceforth, ... ... ...

G-dog, thank you for the articulate, thoughtful, and detailed response. I did some thinking about this as well. We don’t know the conditions that led to Flea using the Rumble 200. If that is his own personal R200 then honorary membership is my vote. If not, I like the Celebrities Hall of Fame as my first choice.

Have you seen the listings of Rumble amps used by celebrities?

Maybe a Celebrity Hall of Fame might be a better pathway?

Letting in an honorary member won't hurt anything.

One must always consider the gripping hand. It's always pertinent.

While I'm not completely opposed to honorary membership, I'd be more on board were it like an honorary degree, where the recipient at least knows and acknowledges what's happened. I'd go more for a Celebrity Hall of Fame -- a wiki page with a photo or three to back it up. The only problem there is how we define "celebrity". Without a solid definition we could end up endlessly arguing over who can be admitted.
That said, if the majority want honorary membership, I'll support it. And that said, I will stand firm that an Ampeg Flip Top is an honorary Rumble. 😜

Have you seen the listings of Rumble amps used by celebrities? They take the top two spots.

My first criteria for membership would be, at the basic level: does the candidate actually OWN a Rumble series amp (either purchased, gifted, traded or pulled from a dumpster)?

Simply showing up at a venue and playing through whatever Rumble amp is provided as backline shouldn't count!

So... Does (did?) Flea actually own the Rumble 500, or was it simply the amp available at the time?
