Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Apparently, whoever develops the Tone app for Fender does the development (or at least the regression testing) on Android, then ports the finished app to the iPhone; and, then releases it without sufficient review. The Android version of v2.x was fine; but, the iOS version had bugs.

The iOS v2.x app had functional issues (it didn't do individual save/load operations for Rumble V3 amps properly); so, I basically stopped using it, except for full backups. I can handle UI icon problems as long as they're not flat out wrong. The '59-ish icons on iOS are tolerable. The Deluxe Reverb icon on the Super Bassman OD in Android gets to my OCD a bit; but, at least it's a Fender tube amp (and on my little iPhone 8, I have to use the zoom feature to tell the difference; but, they are right on iOS). So, I will likely be using Tone v3.x despite its current issues; but, I hope Fender fixes them.

Perhaps we should collect a bug list and report it to Fender. With their forums closing, an official bug report to the service/support team may be the only recourse.

I've been having an issue with the tone app. Every time my phone is linked with the tone app, it disconnects after about 10 seconds. I'm not able to control my amp or build presets with my phone at all.

I'm using an android and not streaming audio simultaneously.

Curious, lizzy. Is that before, or after, the 3.0 upgrade? Or both?

Have you tried completely deleting the app from your phone, restart your phone, then re-add the app?

I agree that the misplaced icons can be annoying, but it’s just an aesthetic thing. As long as the app works like it should, I can live with it. And the app is much more user-friendly than it used to be.

FYI: Fender release a 3.0.1 update for both the iOS (on 2020/03/21) and Android versions (on 2020/03/20). Unfortunately, it doesn't correct either of the icon issues we've been discussing.

But, hey, at least you'll have the most current revision!

Exactly so, Jake. Hence the Nitpicking Department designation!

All-in-all, it looks like a great update, to me. I really like the new user interface.

My phone (Android) and Studio 40 is doing the same. Will try using an Android tablet tonight, see if that makes a difference.

Hey folks.

The icon mismatches being reported got me curious as to whether or not the parameters being displayed by the amps showing generic and/or erroneous icons were proper for the underlying amp models. I wanted to make sure there were no data issues with the Tone 3.x app. So, I did some more poking around.

I am running the latest Fender Tone app version (3.0.1) on a iPhone 8 (iOS 13.3.1) and a Galaxy Tab E (Android 7.1.1). So, I was able to check the app on both platforms.

As has been brought to our attention by our members:
  • In the iOS version:
    • The icons for the following amps are showing a generic amp icon and config screen similar to (but not the same as) the ’59 Bassman:
      • 70's British
      • British Colour
      • British Watts
      • Studio Preamp
      • Studio Tube Preamp
  • In the Android version:
    • The amps listed above are using icons properly styled after the respective models.
    • The icon for the Super Bassman OD is showing a Fender Deluxe Reverb amp.
I verified each of these amps against the parameters on the amp front panel, and compared the parameters between the two platform versions.

Firstly, the iOS version:
  • Although the amps listed above all show the same generic amp icon and amp settings screen, the parameters do differ (appropriately) among the amps, and the knobs match the parameters present in the underlying amp model.
  • So, although the amp icons don’t match, the knobs do.
In the Android version:
  • The amp models listed above, the icon representation and knobs match the underlying amp models.
  • Although the Super Bassman OD model is incorrect displaying a Deluxe Reverb icon and (apparently) amp settings screen, the knobs match the underlying amp model.
This is all very good news... Even though there are some visual discrepancies in the app, the knob/settings presentation and amp model data mapping appear to align.

Did you have the amp paired with another device laying around? It was noted that the Fender Tone app can connect, even if BT is disconnected and noticed this issue myself and was able to resolve that by forgetting the Rumble on the other device. Hope it helps.

Following the advice listed here it was in airplane mode with no other deviced connected and after updateing both the firmwar in the amp and app itself.

Sorry to read that, lizardo. App deletion and re-install? Another firmware "full update" try? (Press and hold the Encoder button and the left middle soft-key simultaneously on startup.)

Yeah, this shouldn't make a difference, but it's helped so many of my co-workers that many of them thought I worked for the IT department. No, I guess I'm just a little more patient than most.

Haven't seen this mentioned yet but is there a reason certain effects cannot be combined? Just an example, if you have the shimmer reverb (no other effects) and try to add the chorus I get this message

That 'Shimmer Reverb' is an odd beast. I seem to recall that you couldn't mix and match it with other effects in the prior firmware/app, either. If I recall correctly, I think if I tried to add it with existing effects, it would show up disabled ("greyed-out"). Perhaps this is the same condition, just a little more verbose.

I wanna say that my old Zoom bass pedal also limited how much you could add on to their shimmery space echo effect. That thing must be a beast in data size.

Hi all, quick question, I have the Stage 800 and also own a Darkglass Alpha Omega Ultra, basically a preamp with DI functions, a nice EQ and a naughty distortion in one box.
First I assumed that you wanted the overdrive/distortion before the amp and that the same would go about a preamp, yet when I set it up before the amp, I am not happy about the sound. So far I put the AOU at the end of my effect chain, using the send/return connectors, but I feel conflicted about having a distortion after the amp.

I mainly use the AOU as distortion and as an EQ, and because the Stage has DI outputs, I don't have to have the AOU at the end for the purpose of using its DI output.

I understand sound is subjective, but I was wondering if some here have the same dilemma with their own preamps/drive boxes while playing on this amp, or any best practices to share, especially since this amp offers so many chain placement options.

thanks! hope all of you are safe

@Diver, I don't have an AOU, but I've seen most of folks recommend using it simply as a stomp box between the guitar and amp input, as you had originally. I would think this would work well especially if you use it primarily as a distortion effect.

Further, folks have recommended leaving amp sim on for the XLR to the P.A. (if applicable), and running the 1/4" out (which does not include the cab sim) to your Rumble 800 on stage.

Thanks Droopy, I will test it again in front of the chain. Now if I use that setup and send the AOU's XLR signal to the PA, I am not including the myriad of effects in the stage to it and I was under the impression that I would want to send the "post" xlr from the Stage 800.

I have zero experience with DIs on stage, last concert I played was over 25 years ago and most often I was EQing using my active bass controls lol. No PA, all amp/cabs. All that to say that I am not so sure about what type of signal should be sent to the PA system vs which one should be sent to the amp serving the purpose of a monitor in that case.
I read a lot that you want to send a "clean" bass tone to the PA while you should keep all the gritty effects for your amp, but wouldn't you want the audience to hear what you hear? Or is the goal just to avoid gain in the signal going to the PA?

I think I understand the purpose of having a clean bass track in parallel to the one with effects such as distortion, for recording and to reinforce the loss of bottom end induced by effects and filters, but since the PA and your amp rarely match in power, I assumed that you wanted to match signals sent to amp and to PA, minus the cab sim and a couple other things.

Thanks in advance!
