Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Greetings Rumblers!!! I am a Studio 40 owner which I bought to replace my first amp, an old SWR Basic Black. I am considering an new amp and of course the Stage 800 is my first choice based on the functionality of the Studio 40. ...

Greetings, Zappy! As a fellow Studio 40 owner I can’t fault your logic! However, one reason I went with the Studio instead of the Stage was that I already have a Rumble 500 combo to reinforce the voices of the 40 if/when needed, like a 2-piece Stage 540. Unless you just really want a backup to the voicings of the 40 that the 800 will give you, or the single-hand carry of the Stage 800, then you might consider a Rumble 500 combo or even a Rumble 800 HD head & cab as reinforcement for the Studio 40. Just a thought.
.
... I have never played through any other amps, I haven't giggled(?) (yet) but have a goal of playing outside of the basement come summer time. ...

I giggle almost every time I stroll through the various stock voices that the Studio 40 has!! It also keeps me smiling every time I practice, jam, rehearse or gig with it. I hope you have at least jammed with some other musicians. Yes, social distancing is still needed, but such informal musical congress is invaluable on the road toward actually gigging with other musos. Another 2 cents, ... for free.
.
... I don't have a problem pulling the trigger blindly on the Stage 800. I am also a little ambivalent about heading out to try different amps during the pandemic. What other rigs did you consider before going with the 800 and what was the final deciding factor. I understand everyone's mileage will vary. TIA

Besides having the R500c, mentioned above, I also enjoy a Bassman 500 w/115 neo cab; like a R500c with more bells & whistles! In fact, the R500c & BM500w115 make a great STEREO reinforcement for the Studio 40!!! Modularity! Enjoy.

Right there with you, G-Dog. I've got a patch with an octave-up pitch-shifted voice and a fair bit of reverb that pretty much compels me to play horn-ish kinda lines. Something between a giggle and bark comes out of my mouth, and a big smile too.

Those two are tops in my rotation. “Clean Focus” is my default practice setting, but my Geddy Lee bass loves Basic Bassman Cln.
I also find myself using Basic SVT and Basic KGB-800 more and more.
I found a preset I really like for my HX Stomp (on the Line 6 CustomTone repository called "63's Precision") that uses the SVT Pro. I am going to try to duplicate it using the Stage's SVT model.

Oooo . . . . That sounds quite noteworthy, Droo! Please advise your findings and/or results, won’t you? :woot:

Good advice by all, but you can’t go wrong with a purchase of the S40’s bigger brother. Then you have all bases covered. Speaking of covers, make sure to grab one of those too, especially if you plan on schlepi g it around town.

Right now, my avatar is my Stage 800 and Rumble 115 ext cab. My current fave tone is the Basic TV Front with a 115 cab and reverb. Bold, in your face bottom end that’s perfect for a lot of music styles.

I’m also beginning to mess with the Basic SVT, but my go-to clean is the Basic Bri-Watt (a clean Hi-Watt). A great base tone that you can mess with.

Have fun with what every gear hound loves pondering over...new equipment!

Interesting question, G. I think, like you, that you should be able to control different amps with the same app, depending on which is connected by Bluetooth. But, I haven't heard of anyone with more than one amp to try it out. Why don't you get a Studio and see? :)
.
Ok, @G-Dog , I gave in to the GAS gods and did as directed.

Yes, the app on the same device works with more than one amp, just not at the same time, as stated above.

Studio 40 is ridiculously light, a much better fit for home practice and schlepping around for lessons, etc. A ton of capability in a compact, very portable package.
Stage 800 will stick around and keep looking for its chance to “play with others” in an environment worthy of its 400 watts into 2x10s.

I am getting a message on my Fender Tone app that I need to update my amp firmware to 3.0.43 (from 3.0.23), but when I connect and accomplish upload the amp still shows 3.0.23 even though the upload process proceeds as advertised.
Also, Fender’s Rumble Stage/Studio Firmware Version Release Notes page shows 3.0.23 to be the most current (5 May 2020).
Has anyone else run into this? Maybe app is requesting soon to be released update not available yet?

Another question for the the group.
While looking at previous Firmware Release notes I noticed that neither of my amps (Studio or Stage) show ‘66 Flip Top, Super Bassman (I do have the three “Basic Bassman” models), Acoustisonic or Acoustic Sim (added in firmware updates 1.1.15 and 2.0.10 respectively) as options? @Droopy_TX ’s excellent preset lists in the Wiki also don’t show these models/presets.
Is there something I need to do to download these models or have they been deleted in later firmware updates (I’m running 2.0.23 currently)?
Thx!

Shawn, I just checked my Studio and it's at firmware version 3.0.23, also. I then tried the firmware update procedure, without the Tone App, just on the amp itself. It connected and searched for updates. Then it said "Downloading updates" (!!) Finally it said "No updates available". Therefore, I believe this is the case. Perhaps you can try the same without the Tone App?

G, the '66 Flip Top and Super Bassman are just amp models, while presets consist of pre-effects (if any), an amp, post effects (if any) & cab(s)(if any). They are on Droopy_TX's lists of amp models listed at the bottom of the Preset lists, as well as the list of amp models in the manual. Presets 1, 2 & 3 use the Super Bassman Overdrive amp, but none of the stock presets use the '66 Flip Top. It's just there in case you want to use it.

Try copying a preset to a test location (greater than 100), then try changing the amp that preset uses to see the Super Bassman and the Flip Top in the list.

The Acoustasonic and Acoustic Sim are new presets available for download using the Tone App. They were not available when Droopy_TX made those marvelous Preset Templates and Decoder Lists, which have surprisingly not generated the sensation I expected. Perhaps if they were discussed and/or referenced here more he might find time and motivation to update his Templates and Lists. Personally, I cannot even discuss this kind of stuff without frequent reference to the Droopy_TX Preset Experience links in the TONE APP Support section of the Rumble Club Wiki page. I can’t say enough good things about it!

Copy. I did the update process via the amp, too. Shows 3.0.23. Not sure what’s going on with the Tone app, but if I had to guess, I think there may be another firmware update coming along soon and somebody pushed the info to the app before they were ready to release. We’ll see.

I completely misunderstood the concept of there being amp “models” that weren’t in the stock “presets”. Light bulb went off reading your note above!

Thanks, @G-Dog (and I agree, huge hats off to @Droopy_TX !!) for all of the help you provide to me and the rest of this group. You do a great job keeping this place Rumbling along!!

Love my Rumble 200 - I believe it to be the best sounding amp I ever owned. Taking in alot of territory - SVT, GK 400 w/12 band EQ to name a few. So, I am betwixt n between my next amp. The finalists are the Rumble 500 n Rumble Stage 800 - I already have a Carvin 1x15 small cab and a 210 Cab with 2 new Carvin 300 Watt speakers.. My 200 has handled situations well especially where there is a house (direct) sound system. I am gigging more n more and some of the gigs are outdoors as I am in Florida.....The modelling seems appealing but not the be all n end all - I am a Motown, Rock n Roll, R&B ole schoold player who plays 3 to 4 sets and never touches the sound - do some damping n harmonics with my hands......So, does the 300 watt bump from 500-800 really siginificant enough? thanks for your time and attention

I'm sure others can provide better information that I can, but it is only a 300 watt bump if you add your extension cabs. But more importantly, if you don't change your sound throughout your sets, I'm not sure you'd find much use for the modeling features.

Yo, Boom! Sounds like you're mainly looking for "more power" [grunt, grunt, grunt]. Not that there's anything wrong with that. And, though the Rumble Stage 800 has that extra power, IMO its raison d'etre is really more about the different voices, tones and effects it can bring to the show. Plus, between the un-extended combos the 400W of the 800 is insignificantly more than the 350W of the 500. You should consider just how appealing the modeling may, or may not, become to you over time. Or try it to see.

I tend to agree with you, 5er. Extension cab(s) are required to get more volume. And I agree that 800W is not very much more than 500W in that regard, if the cab(s) are equal. ;)

However, the Rumble Stage 800 can run two 8 ohm cabs to the 500's one. Doubling the extension cabs can provide significantly more SPL* from the 800, especially if it's two 410 cabs! The only thing to top that would be the Rumble 800 HD head running four 410 cabs!!! :woot:

In a word...yes. Give the Stage 800 a serious audition, particularly with your 210 cab, and see what you think. You’ll hear (and feel) punch like you never have felt before. Plus, just about any special effects device is available and it can all be controlled by your phone. Even as a stand-alone, the S800 will serve you well. Definitely keep it on your short list.

Thx for that - Looking forward to the pedal tuner as well....Once I find that Vintage pocket - am so happy - I change tones with simply my hands n rolling on and off the P bass tone - simple as that ----- am sure that 800 with 2 10 ext (not ported) will create a thermo pulse that bangs one right in the chest -
