Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

I do it all the time. it's very intuitive.

Yes, the Tone App is great! And I haven't had any real problem using it via Bluetooth from my phone or, more preferably, my easier-to-read tablet. But, after about four decades of keyboarding on PCs, I guess, I just still feel more familiar with that interface than with touch screens. I even prefer the keyboard to the mouse on PCs.

Does anyone know how to control a Studio 40 or Stage 800 with the Tone App for PCs?

Ok, here's my chance ... Choc, do you use the Fender Tone App for your computer to edit presets? I thought I saw that happening in a NAMM video when the LT25 was introduced a couple years ago. I was kinda jealous that the Stage & Studio can't do that, at least as far as I know.
.
G ,You can edit presets on the 800 and 40 from the Fender Tone app ..I do it on my 40...I never use the knobs or buttons on the amp.. although when I have a few times it's great...

G, I’ve previously downloaded the Mac version of the Tone app and tried it.

From what I see, the main difference is that the computer app communicates to the LT25 et al. via the USB connection versus BlueTooth as is used in the mobile app. It appears that the Studio 40/Stage 800 are not capable of bi-directional communication via USB; they can only send digital audio.

I don’t think we’ll get to use the computer version Tone for the Studio 40/Stage 800 unless Fender makes the app BlueTooth-capable. I don’t think that’s likely. Although some computers have embedded BlueTooth (e.g. MacBooks), it’s not as ubiquitous as with phones and tablets. It’s probably not in their fiscal interest to enhance a free app for equipment models that already have a functional alternative.

Well, I wouldn’t really think of it as a “downgrade,” but more of a bonus “upgrade” since the the LT amp came out a couple of years later.

In fact, I’ve never even used the usb on my Stage 800. Anytime I want to do any serious recording I just line out into my interface and into Cubase.

If I’m changing the amp presets then I use the Tone app on my iPhone or hard controls on the amp itself.

I certainly think having more options and functionality in these combos is a great thing though. That’s what drew me to this amp in the first place.

The functionality drew me in too, plus it's without a shadow of a doubt the best sounding small amp I've ever owned, and that includes my SWR LA10 (and if you ever find an LA10 for sale, grab it with both hands). For what they cost, it's one of the few genuine bargains in music today. I even love the built in tuner, which seems to me to be a very accurate device. Certainly as good as my stand alone Korg tuner, and so much more convenient to use. It also has a very good headphone output, which is important to me.

Yes, of course, Buzzy. I was occasionally 'playing' with the mobile Tone App on my phone (w/o an amp!) for about a year while trying to decide between the 40 & 800. I decided on the 40 for it’s greater portability, since I could reinforce it with my Rumble 500 and/or Bassman 500, but I mostly use it by itself! :smug:

So, Droo, is there a keyboard interface to the Tone App for Mac, or is it just for mouse? And did you not try using it via your Mac's Bluetooth? If it's just for mouse I might as well just stay with the mobile App.

I've searched and found ways to run the mobile Tone App on a Bluetooth PC by using an Android emulator, like Bluestacks. But I don't think that would give me the keyboard interface I'm looking for. Plus my old laptop doesn't have Bluetooth, and Mrs. Dog's PC (with Bluetooth) is too new for her to let me experiment on. She's still very protective of her embroidery designs on it, so far, even with offline backup! Perhaps someday, with a lot of patience, I'll get to try it, if I can remember then. (sigh)
.
Aren't the Studio and Stage able to talk to the desktop app via wifi?

Alas, no, Choc. The wi-fi is a one-trick pony for updating the amp's firmware only. It's Bluetooth that allows the mobile Tone App to control these amps, or to stream music to the amp. Hence some 'diffugilties' when trying to use the mobile Tone App and stream music both by Bluetooth. Many uh, ... Blueteeth(?) get confused trying both simultaneously and mess up one, or both. :(

Ooo, ooo, Choc! Does the Tone App for PC let you use the keyboard? You know, like, use the Tab key to get to the different controls, and Shift+Tab to move backward thru them? Type a number to enter a knob setting? Can you save presets to your PC drive? That kind of thing? Or is it just for the mouse?

Yes, Dax, and I look at the Tone App for PC/Mac, that was introduced with the LT25, as a possible major upgrade over the mobile Tone App, if it adds a true keyboard interface and allows saving presets to the PC/Mac drive(s) for backup and ongoing projects, etc. (And, dare I say it, maybe even allow some cross pollination of models from the Mustang GT & GTX amps, if not from <gasp> some third-party sources! :woot:)

Otherwise, a bi-directional USB to replace both wi-fi and Bluetooth, removal of the XLRs and FX loops and at least half the presets, smaller speaker and lower power all seem more like downgrades to a lower price point for introductory use. Not that there's anything wrong with that! On the contrary, it's an economical way to see if modeling is for you, or not. Hey, it's got The Chick here considering an Stage 800 later on!

This old f..., guy has been modeling since my brand new 2003 Fender Cyber Deluxe for 6-string guitar, then my new 2008 Fender B-DEC 30 bass modeling amp, the grandaddy of today's LT25, Studio and Stage. I still don't know everything, like I truly believe Droopy_TX does (or can find out), but I know a thing or two 'cause I've seen a thing or two. [Not affiliated with any insurance company, nor their advertising concerns.] ;)

You can use the keyboard to enter values for sure. I haven't tried Tab or Shift+Tab, I'll take a look at that. Come to think of it, my Dell has a touch screen, I'm betting that works too. In fact, it's bound to work. Why didn't I even think of that? I'll get back to you.

As for considering a Stage 800, I need something BIG to replace my old SWR Super Redhead, and there ain't no SWR any more. Fender bought SWR - in fact, the "Slap Bass" amp model is a Super Redhead. Seems like a good place to start.

Choc, please also try saving presets to your PC drive. That's a biggie for me.

The Tab and Shift-Tab are just a couple of the many old keyboard productivity tips I 'grew up' with. :roflmao:

Thinking about it, you know the actual coolest thing about being able to run a Stage or a Studio from your laptop would be how pissed your band's keyboard player would be about no longer being the only body on the stage with a 'pooter as a part of their rig. Come on, Fender, do it.

Yeah, there's that, too! And, if your gitfiddler(s) use Fender Mustang GT ot GTX amps they could join in to the 'pooter parade. Of course, your drummer may already use electronic drums with his own 'poot, too! Augh! Where does it end? Stop the insanity!!! Or not. ;)

If I'm going to try and crystalize my thoughts about this amp into one post, it would go like this...

You know instantly once you begin to unbox it that this is a quality product. The packaging is second to none. Is that important to how it sounds or performs? No. Of course not. But somebody thought about that. Your very first interaction with this is a quality experience.

Everything feels good, everything is well made. The controls are nicely weighted and feel nice to use. That's important. It's like car doors that shut with a clunk - think Audi or VW. The finish is flawless and you start to think "did they make a mistake with the price?". Even the carrying handle has been "designed", not just bought off a shelf. There's even a sturdy cloth tab that you can use to pull off the front grille. I dunno why you'd want to do that, but you CAN. Every single thing on it is super easy to deal with.

I've said in previous posts it's the best "small amp" I've ever heard. I need to qualify that. It's obviously not in the same class as the tiny MarkBass or the Trace Elliot Elf combos, but they are a lot more expensive and really not directly comparable at all.

My benchmark was the SWR LA series and the earlier small size Working Man's series, Working Man's 10 for example. If you've ever used one of those, you'll know how good they were. It's comparable to those legendary little cubes. That's high praise.

Criticisms - It would be nice to be able to bypass the digital front end and get the "clean" sound of the amp but that may be hard from an engineering point of view. I'd like to see corner protectors on the cabinet. I'd like to see the classic Fender silver and black grille cloth. I can't really think of anything else I don't like.

Overall, I think Leo would have been really proud of these amps that have his name on them.

The presets are saved automatically. ... ...

Thanks very much, Choc. I assume this means preset changes are automatically saved to the amp, not to the PC. That pretty much dashes my hopes of the Tone App for PC/Mac being an upgrade to the mobile App. :dead:

No, this is not important to the sound or performance of the amp, but it is very important to getting it safely transported and as part of the overall experience. "You never get a second chance to make a good first impression." Those old sayings are old for a reason.

That handy dandy grille removal tab seems to be a Fender staple in recent years. More than one Rumbler has preferred the other color grille than the one they've purchased. But, unfortunately, neither Fender nor anyone else I've found sells them. They can be be made, of course, without too much technical skill. I just haven't really put my hand to it. (Yeah, that's the ticket.)

Or, the modeling Rumbles with black grilles just so happen to also have an exact size matched non-modeling Rumble with silver grilles, too. The 25 & the LT25, the 40 & Studio 40, the 200/500 & the Stage 800 can each have their grilles easily swapped! (Sorry Rumble 100.) You can buy the opposite models and swap them, or find a friend to swap with. I know a 40 & Studio 40 owner who has done that. And I've suggested a swap between 2 such owners who wanted the opposite of what they have (but dunno if they did it). And at least one Rumbler spray painted a silver 115 cab grille black to successfully match his Stage 800! The options, and possibilities, are out there.

The Stage & Studio have a preset for a basic "Rumble V3" and wake up to whatever preset was last used. Does the LT25 not have that and do that?

G, I didn’t spend much time with it after realizing the app was trying to communicate to an amp via USB, and I saw no way to tell the app to use BlueTooth instead. I just figured it’s only for the newer amps.

Quite likely, Droo. Thanks, anyway. I've about given up that pipe dream. (sigh) :(

But, ... that doesn't really diminish the fun that is my Fender Rumble Studio 40! :woot:

Not in the least!!! :bassist:
As I've mentioned, recently I've taken to using the front panel for editing; but, the mobile/tablet app is great, too. It's just how the mood hits me; but once it's setup, I just...

...Rumble On!

It definitely helps to be fluent in both the onboard menu and the App so you can go either way that makes the most sense in any given situation. Bilingual in Tone! Yeah, baby! Oh, behave.

I never thought of backing my presets to the cloud...May come in handy if I delete any by mistake..What do you mean you can't back up just individuals Dog?...

Ah! Here we go, @Buzzment. This is where we discuss Rumble modeling stuff.

I mean the Stage & Studio Backup/Restore is an "all or nothing" feature. It won't backup or restore, say, only preset #33 which you've tweaked. It backs up all the presets & setlists currently on the amp and then restores them all, possibly overwriting any more recent tweaks made after the backup!

I was hoping the Tone App for PC/Mac might let us backup or restore just one, or a few, presets at a time. But, noOOooo-ooo! It's "all or nothing". o_O
