Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Honestly, I am not that familiar anymore with setting the latency and buffer parameters for audio drivers in Windows. I mentioned I used to use Cakewalk; but, that was on Windows back around 2007-2010. Tweaking the ASIO drivers for optimal performance was an ongoing struggle. I know it is better now; but it was the main reason I started using a Mac. I never really had to mess with the buffer settings. (I know it's a dumber approach, but it was much simpler; and the Mac Mini was a loaner from my brother. ;))

My current round trip latency is about 7.9ms. I don't have any problems tracking with that latency. If I am reading you screenshot correctly, and you're getting around 10ms, I have to think that's workable. As I mentioned, though, I try to make sure I don't use any heavy plugins until I'm done tracking.

Over the years, I have used a number of DAWs: Cakewalk/Sonar, Logic, Ableton, ProTools, Auria, and I've helped folks using Studio One. In my opinion they are all very similar. Each has its own particular best features and deficiencies. I think once you get all your hardware concerns ironed out, you will be able to settle on the one that best fits your workflow. I settled on Logic because 1) once you've bought into it on the Mac, its pretty much free to keep current; and 2) in addition to being a full-featured audio DAW, it excels at MIDI. I do a lot of MIDI work in addition to audio recording.

Regarding your levels with the C4: What is your signal path / hardware chain (order)?

Some things to try:
  • You can configure the USB audio output signal level being sent to the DAW. On the amp front panel, press MENU; select EQ & AMP SETTINGS; then select LINE OUT/USB GAIN. You can change this setting from +0 dB to +20.0 dB. I think the default setting is +6.0 dB; so, you may be able to reduce it.
  • You could try adding the Studio One Mixtool plugin to your track to use reduce the Gain of the incoming signal. This may work better than the USB output level on the amp; because you can actually attenuate the signal quite a lot (as opposed to just not boosting it).
Hope this helps.

Thanks. Unfortunately it seems that Windows 10 has no idea that ASIO4all is installed. I'm not using a fancy DAW, just Audacity, which would be adequate for my needs. It's just that nothing seems to recognize the ASIO driver.

I don't know why, when it comes to sound, Windows has to be so precious about it all. When I used Macs, it just **worked**.

Did you try to record using the Windows Voice Recorder via a USB cable? This works fine for the Stage800 with Windows 10 and no ASIO driver installed.

Jeez it never even occured to me to use voice recorder. Hold on whilst I just... oh poop. Nope. Still no worky.

Screw it. I'm buying a Focusrite. Thanks everybody for your patience and help, but I guess for recording, Windows 10 is a full cheap shizz Ryobi toolkit in a world of quality (Mac)itas.

Let's not blame Windows 10 for you not buying an ASIO compatible audio interface. FYI you can record with all the other choices your interface does support ;) ASIO is really only needed for real-time monitoring, i.e. playing at home through a VST.

Excuse me but I didn't "buy" anything, I'm simply trying to make a feature work. The idea of all these choices that my interface DOES support is indeed enticing, because I am clearly a dumbass who doesn't know one end of a USB cable from the other, and it's so refreshing to have a white knight ride up and save me from my own stupidity.

I feel like you have educated me beyond my wildest expectations with your valuable post, and I thank you humbly for your precious time.

What's your experience with playback from PC/phone over Bluetooth?
I experience about half a second delay and is it somehow what should be expected?
Studio 40

I hope you're not trying to use Bluetooth audio streaming while also using the Tone App! BT doesn't multitask that well. Just do one or the other, not both.
