Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Has anyone been using the Studio 40 as a front end to, say, a Rumble 500? Or even a R500+210? Just curious regarding how it works together if the volume gets turned up reasonably loud, and what the disadvantages are of using S40+R500 vs Stage800?

Me! I have a Studio 40 and a Rumble 500 combo!! Can't say I've actually gigged it that way, though. For acoustic jams, even with up to 20+ other instruments (!), the S40 alone has been plenty. For my church gig the S40 goes DI to FOH. But, I live in hopes of needing the R500c in a loud band. It's about time we got the country cover band back together, now that our families have all settled down (yeah, right).

Only disadvantage I can think of is 2 cabs versus 1, and the little extra weight.

Anyone else?

Not into a R500c but I picked up a Studio 40 last week to rent for a month.

I’m running the effects out from the S40 into the effects in on the old Yorkville BM400 powering an old Peavey 1x15”. Perfect for my situation as the BM has a stout power amp but I’ve never been a fan of the preamp much. Nothing wrong with it, I just don’t like graphic-only EQ.

I’m liking it...a LOT!:bassist::cool:

Getting big bottom and articulation then dial in the combo volume to match. Easy peasy!

Never been one for effects on bass...until now!:woot: So much fun! All the amp models make it interesting too. Got a killer slap tone via the 800 slap preset tweaked and multi-effected lol.

The great thing is here is that I get to try all kinds of things that I normally would never get a chance to have a go at and unlike times gone by. They sound great to me.

Just absolutely loving it. I feel so pumped it just makes me want to play and play. My local ma and pa is probably not getting it back lol. Half the rental fees paid get applied to the purchase price should I choose to buy it later. Time to make my own thread.:D

I generally just take the approach of editing amp settings directly via the CONTROLS layer. That way, I can access all the settings. Once you get in practice of doing it that way, it really isn't much different (or slower) than physical knobs.
All, just a follow-up on this statement I made in the general Rumble Club thread...

I was thinking further about my approach to editing settings on the Rumble Stage 800 using the CONTROLS layer, and I want offer this hybrid approach:

As I mentioned, the physical BASS, MIDDLE, and TREBLE knobs map to their corresponding settings within the underlying amp model (with the Rumble V3 mapping MID to its LO MID). You can use the physical knobs to edit those settings simultaneously to editing settings in the CONTROLS layer with the ENCODER knob.

So, let's say you have a preset in which you want to tweak four settings; for example: the Rumble V3's BASS, LO MID, HI MID, and TREBLE, or the KGB-800's BASS, MID, MID FREQ, and TREBLE.

In these instances, you can go into EDIT mode in the CONTROLS layer, and select the "fourth" setting with the ENCODER for editing, i.e. the Rumble V3's HI MID, or the KGB-800's MID FREQ.

Now, you have four physical knobs with which you can tweak these four settings simultaneously. This makes it very much like tweaking the tone on an analog amp.

Apologies if this was already painfully obvious, but it escaped me for a while.

I have experienced a sound cut issue on the Rumble Stage 800 a few times while I'm just practicing at home at low volume. The cooling fan is working properly so this would not be the cause. The amp sudently mutes and I need to turn it off and on again to unmute it. The firmware version is the last one (v2.0.11, base ver: 1.0.2). I have the bluetooth engaged and the tone app on the mediapad tablet connected. I wonder if this could be just a firmware issue like an endless loop or something related with the fact that a bluetooth device is trying to reconnect. Anyone had a similar problem?

That's not a good sign, ricky. My Rumble Studio has that same version with no problems. If you think it only started with the firmware update, you can reset your amp back to factory level (per the manual), and note if it still happens. If not, that's a good sign! Then, re-install the update and check again. If it happens again after the update, then you've got a more specific story for taking it to an Authorized Fender Service Center. It's less than 2 years old, so it's still under warranty.

Hope this helps.

I have not experienced any audio drop-outs my Stage 800, either.

You say that you have "bluetooth engaged and the tone app on". Are you using bluetooth to play practice tracks, or just to connect the Tone app? If the former, I wonder if the audio playback is messing with the volume.

I sometimes have the Tone app connected while practicing for configuration purposes, but never use it for audio play.

I have the same experience with my Studio 40. I'm convinced it's got something to do with the audio playback of audio tracks or video clips on my Android tablet via bluetooth. Aside from that, just maintaining a bluetooth connection is challenging.

I have just recovered the base firmware followed by an update (I also had to restore my presets) and it is working fine for about one hour. It also worked fine before this update but on some rare occasions (1% of the times I have used the amp, I would say) it had these audio dropouts. I have been using a laptop bluetooth to play audio tracks AND the android tablet via bluetooth to connect the Tone app. I guess this is too much bluetooth for the amp :)

I had this happen just last week, my girlfriend’s phone connected to the amp and then the amp went silent. I removed the amp from her phone’s Bluetooth settings and it has been fine since. I can barely connect with my iPhone anymore since the latest IOS update but my old Android phone connects every time! I’m not too worried about it, I’ve had it almost a year and Bluetooth connectivity has been only a minor problem.

I experience audio drop outs just using my phone with Bluetooth speakers! I assume it's my phone's (Galaxy S7) background processes causing the interruption, though I've tried to get rid of all superfluous apps. When practicing alone for a gig I use a wire from phone to Aux In so as not to mess around. I've only occasionally used the Bluetooth audio playback at rehearsal when requested by others in the band and, so far, so good.

But, of course, I would never expect my Studio's Bluetooth to play audio and function with the Tone App at the same time! That just feels like asking for trouble, to me. (Kinda like playing some walking lines and singing for me! But I did OK this morning.)

Just my 2¢.

I’ve had this happen a couple of times with my previous Stage 800. I think it has happened once on my replacement Stage 800. I am waiting for it to rear it’s head again.

It does seem to be Bluetooth related from my experience and what others are reporting. I’ve only had it happen while practicing with the Tone app connected. I’ve never tried streaming or playing anything back through the amp. I also don’t think going back in firmware will help this.

The times it happened to me was after playing for awhile with the app sitting idle. Maybe the phone going to sleep or powering down some or maybe just a blip in the Bluetooth connection.

I just wait it out and the sound always comes back, but it does take several seconds. You wouldn’t want this to happen live and I wouldn’t trust leaving the Tone app connected during a gig for this reason.

Try waiting it out next time, as an experiment, and see if your sound comes back after a bit. I’m betting it will. Maybe then we can put our group hats on to chase down whatever is triggering this.

Just updating this question based on recent info in the main Rumble thread... using a Studio or Stage to front end a V3 Rumble combo isn't as straight forward as chaining V3 Rumbles together themselves. This is due to the location of the master volume relative to the FX loop in both cases. It means you can't use the FX Recv on the V3 Rumble if the FX Send is at a fixed level (like the Stage/Studio, but unlike other V3's). You'd need to chain through the instrument input instead.

So Studio40+R500c is not as transparent a replacement of the Stage800 as I originally thought.

My 7 month old Rumble LT25 has just started making a high pitched whine sound within the last two weeks. It is definitely coming from the amp area on top and not the speaker. It is present with the volume at 0 or 10 and plugging in a bass makes no difference. I have tried different outlets throughout my house and turning most other devices off. I used a couple of different power cables and that makes no difference. The amp seems to function normally otherwise, I have tried different amp settings and the sound is still present. It is not super loud but I can hear it across a quiet room. My little Mustang LT25 has the similar digital LCD interface and it does not make this noise. Just looking for opinions and wondering if I should try the warranty. I purchased this new on line and there is a Fender Service Center not far away. Has anyone used their Fender warranty and how do I go about using it if I decide to go that way....? Thanks....

Yes, take your amp and purchase receipt to an authorized Fender repair shop so they can diagnose. They should be able to repair it or get a replacement from Fender.
Thanks, since it just started doing this it seems like something that will likely get worse over time. I didn't know if I needed to get some kind of authorization from Fender before taking to the repair shop...guess they will check it out and let me know that it is a covered repair....

@ricardol,
I thought I recalled Fender saying that simultaneous use of the Tone app and audio streaming is problematic. Here's a Invalid Link Removed to a page on Fender's website describing a similar performance issue, and their statement regarding concurrent use is:

We recommend you limit usage to either Bluetooth audio streaming OR the Tone app to control your amp presets, so they don’t compete with each other.

Like you suggest, it's probably too much for the amp to handle.

Attention: Rumble Club Wiki Edit Alert!

Thanks, Droopy! Your post has been linked on the Rumble Club Wiki page in the Tone App Support section. I bet I read that, once upon a time, and only remember the point instead of the source.

We recommend you limit usage to either Bluetooth audio streaming OR the Tone app to control your amp presets, so they don’t compete with each other.

Thank you, for the reminder.

In my case the audio steaming had nothing to do with it. I don’t use that feature.

It has happened to me three times with just the Tone app connected. I do wonder if a txt or call might have tried to butt in. Also wondering if airplane mode would help.

Aha! I don't recall if I saw it on the Fender website, or where, but "Airplane Mode" rings a bell!! A few months ago I always enabled it anytime I connected to my RS40. It became a habit. But, at some point, I guess I was in a hurry and didn't do it and lost the habit, just like that. [snaps fingers] If you need to run the Tone App at a gig, I would certainly personally recommend "Airplane Mode" for best results.
