From OP's list, I built my own Phil Lynott tribute bass. It was pretty easy, and I probably saved a grand off the price if Fender had built it.

I like John Deacon a lot. He never gets enough credit. I doubt that he would be interested in having a signature model. These days he is more of a recluse.

Apparently, he doesn't even talk to Brian May.

+1 Truly my favorite bassist. What a difference it was going from learning Metal stuff as a kid to learning Zep ! I remember learning The Lemon Song and asking myself how the hell I was going to remember all the slight variances throughout the song.

As others have said, I'm very surprised Fender never did a Tim Commerford sig. He's one of the primary reasons I got my first Fender Jazz bass, and I doubt I'm the only one. His basses tend to be rather customized, lending themselves well to a signature line.

Had a Commerford model been available at the time, I would have been all over it

What is the point of this?Fender have very long listed all sort of basses so one could get one of them ( with some dig in )and get same sound like Dee Dee and whoever without extra paid because they have been "signed",different pick guard etc.

There are enough Fender 4 string sig models to fill a cruise ship right now.

Might already have been said, but there was nothing special about JJ's P -- it was a stock P made special by its player. Uf you want to replicate it, get the '62 RI, put heavy flats on it, raise the action and make sure there's a piece of foam rubber under the bridge cover. Then play hard between bridge cover and the end if the neck. Oh... And be creative as hell.

I don't like signature intstruments that are just cosmetic copies of the stock instruments the player has been playing.

I do like howerver, when the player actually goes to the company and specs out an entirely new instrument to the smallest detail, Like Steve Baily or Stu Hamm creating new designs, or Mike Dirnt creating a hybrid of two different basses, with his personal neck specs and pickup voicing.

To me, that is a real signature bass.

Agree, and thats the reason i see to call a truly signature. And thats the reason i see why so many called "signature" just as a marketing vodoo. And for me, at least the Roscoe Beck fits the "signature" spec. Cause is the only Fender thats actually build for and in conjunction with artist with Features non seen in other Fender.
