Question, do you guys feel any of the dual coils can nail the single coil J sound when set to one coil?

Congrats on your new order; sounds like it will be a beauty. As for the dual coils set to single coil--I almost always used my Fodera Emperor 5 (mahogany body, kingwood board) in single coil mode; it has fodera dual coils. It just sounds a little more articulate to me. But they do not sound like traditional single coil Js at all, IMO. Definitely a more modern sound.

I am right on board with you guys about how hard the wait is...in early November I put a deposit down on a pair of "twin" Monarchs that will be finished sometime in late 2011 (hopefully) or early 2012. Yes, we all pay AND wait for our instruments -- essentially we take the wholesale discount and then get in line!

The concept was a pair of "retro" Monarchs...

The specs...

Bass I:

Alder Body
Chestnut Top
Water Maple Neck
Brazilian Board
Vintage Frets
Fodera Dual Coils
Pope/Fodera Pre

Bass II:

Ash Body (one-piece!)
Maple Burl Top
Water Maple Neck
Birdseye Maple Board
Large Frets
Fodera Dual Coils
Pope/Fodera Pre

We will be keeping the PUP spacing the same on both (kind of a modified 70's spacing that Joey developed for my basses to keep the Dual Coils bright enough for my tone) so that the nuances from the different woods will not be obscured by a random variable. They will be built side-by-side at the same time.

We are all really interested to hear these things when they are done. Obviously I am a bit of a Monarch nut, but I will be culling the herd a bit when these are finished or I am going to need to find another house in which to live!

I smell a mockup on the way! It's a great idea though. A digital mockup of what is coming down the road is what architect firms do as well to keep the vision clear in front of their waiting customers.

Just to complete the vintage-esque theme...a 60's JBass had vintage frets and the 70's have medium jumbos. Believe it or not, they DO sound different and certainly feel different...

Really interesting--why the different fret sizes, if you don't mind my asking?

Nice. Try to take a good clear shot straight on so the wood isn't at an angle in the picture if you can. That's always the best.

After expressing my concerns that the spalted maple top for my Emperor would be too light, Jason slapped some shellac on it to show what it will look like finished. This is what I'm talking about. He's bending over backwards to make it just the way I want it.

Does anyone know who owns this bass now? It was mine (got it at the 2007 NAMM show) but had to sell it for financial reasons and now I would love to try and get it back.
