We just sold the last of the first 90 yesterday. That said, some of the 90 that we sold are destined for Dealers, so there still should be some availability. The next 30 that we will be building will not start until around 10/1/12 as we have other Standard Models lined up to build prior to that.

The first 90 YYS have had everything other than the initial work on the necks -- glue up, carving and fretting -- done at the Brooklyn shop. The woods for all of the necks were selected here in Brooklyn by us and then shipped to a shop that we have worked with in Japan for well over 15 years.

Beginning with #91 EVERYTHING (including all initial neck work) will be done right here in Brooklyn. However, #91 and #90 will be indistinguishable from one another...the necks that were built for us by our shop in Japan are identical to the way we will build them...

My Monarch Elite is the only bass I have had that seldom needs tuning. It's about as stable as any neck can be. And the weather in Texas where I am goes from hot to cold to hot all the time, so I have to run heater then switch to ac lol.

That's the wrong address...you should send the bass to me for a set up...( my set ups take about two years to complete ) but you will be a very happy guy when you get the bass back : )

I understand the question, and if it was a Fender or Musicman or something I'd ask to.

But.... It's not.



(Not hating on Fenders or Musicmans BTW, both nice basses. But they are not custom made basses from ridiculously well seasoned wood by an absolute master master luthier.)

Nah it's still a reasonable question to ask. Just a sign of a difference in philosophy, if compared to other "absolute master master luthiers", as you say.

Compared to huge production companies, like Fender, it's usually a "safety factor" thing. They make so many that the odd one that has a littttle bit of instability is saved by the additional stiffness added. It's really just a number/probability thing.

That is why we are using quartersawn wood on the 5-string necks...to add as much dimensional stability as possible without introducing a foreign material to the wood. Vinny and Joey experimented a bit with graphite reinforced necks, but they never made it into production as neither felt that the change in tone was worth the potential additional stability.

Good to know. I like the philosophy behind not introducing a foreign material into the wood.

On a side note: any plans on expanding the Standard Serie in the future?

Absolutely, but not for quite a bit of time...as a small shop, doing a 30 or 60 piece run of something is very taxing at the level of quality that we are intent on delivering. If I were a betting man, I would think that the next Standard would be announced at the 2013 NAMM Show for our 30th Anniversary...

Production of Standards looks like this for 2012...

January - March = YYS 61-90
April - June = E5S 1-30
July - September = E5S 31-60
October - December = YYS 91-120 (tentatively)
