We honestly are not sure what this wood really is, only that we have gotten a very small parcel of it and when we bought it, we were told that the wood was "Black Oak that came from a Bog." The wood certainly looks like no oak we have ever seen, so we have dubbed it "Bogwood." And yes, it is pretty darn "sick!" Like Buckeye and Chestnut, it is very light in weight and acts more like a neutral tonal filter than a true tone wood...that is, it allows the tone of the underlying build materials to shine through without coloring them.
