Fodera Club Part XIII

I do too sometimes suffer from this height between the body and the strings on my Fodera Monarch Deluxe, it is the highest I have ever owned!
I have recently tried my friend's YYS, which of course it's a bolt-on, and the height is a bit lower than my MD, but nothing is as beautiful as the dovetail construction, I simply love it, and I dig that perfect tone between a NTB and a Bolt-on, so lately I've been forcing myself to like the awkward way it slaps.. :)

Trying not to play another bass with a low space between the body and the strings so I don't get so confortable at it, and stop playing my Fodera which I'm slowly starting to get used to, but really, sooo slowly
sometimes I think it's ridiculous... :(
other than that, the bass is a true dream for me!

It's of course a matter of taste and personal style of playing whether you prefer more or less distance between strings and top, but it is not an option independent from the neck joint I guess - as always, for enough money you might get everything you want....

I also haven't seen Deluxes with pickguards - but a lot of Bolt-Ons.

Anyway - I personally prefer the string height of the Elites every day.

I guess you are right. I just do recall the YYD as being very easy to play and having a huge slap tone. As far as I remember, my other Fodera Deluxe had a higher body-strings distance, but I could very well be mistaken here. It´s been some time, more than two years actually. Now I am 100% satisfied with the Human Base basses, but still looking for a good "Elite" Fodera that could fit into my Cuban/Latin band.

PS, another question here. I noticed that very few foderas were finished other than natural satin (if any?). Is that because you don't offer a finish in any other specific color? or just because everyone wants nothing but a [DEL] buckeye burl top [/DEL] fancy natural top for an instrument at this level...

We have no such plans...sorry! Our instrument designs have always been borne out of a desire to blend function and form. While a singlecut bolt-on might be pleasing from a "form" standpoint, it would defeat the functional purpose it was intended for...that is to provide a larger surface area over which the body and neck are joined thereby increasing the stiffness of the neck and making the instrument excite easier (from a vibrational standpoint). I hope that makes sense.

Presently we have two five string Standards and one four string standard...without giving too much more away, the next Standard (which will be announced at Bass Player Live in October) will be a second 4-string. At the moment, there are no more plans for any other Standards.

We have been asked to do more singlecut Standards and a 6-string Standard, neither of which we have any plans to do at present. We are taking these one at a time and are not looking much further forward than these four (which were all conceived pretty much at the same time a couple of years back).

For better, or worse, our production capacity is pretty much static. We have gone through most of the growth that can be had by better organization and management already (over the past two years). From here on out, any increase in the number of instruments that we build can only happen by simplifying / cheapening our instruments -- which we simply will not do -- or as some of the younger members of our crew become increasingly proficient at carving...which takes A LOT OF TIME.

So, while the Standards are easier and faster for us to build than our Custom instruments, they still take a tremendous amount of time and hand work and, as such, we cannot really keep adding more models in the short term...

you also should think of adding maybe 1-3 leftys to each new standart run - I bet they will be sold faster than the rightys :)

Two Daily Base and one BaseX. I have another Daily Base on order that should be done within the next couple of weeks... It is specially designed to come close to AJs bass sound on his latest recordings, especially on Hiromis "Voice".

I'm guessing it will be a VW standard. Spec to his 83 bass. Seems like they are basing the "standard" production on popular models. It would be a smart move to continue this idea seeing the success of the previous standard models.
