Fodera Club Part XXII

Ok this is a bit off topic, but.... I'm playing in some seriously shady areas. I'm not keen on bringing out a Fodera, sorry. I'd like to get something that's reasonably playable and sounds half decent and costs less than $5-800. I posted it here, because if you own a Fodera you know what playable and sounds good actually means. Thanks in advance and just pm me if you have an idea and aren't comfortable posting it here. Thanks!

I use an ESP Vintage 4 when I don't want to bring my Fodera with me. They go for around $1500 new but $700 to $800 on the used market. The quality is outstanding and nothing comes close for the price. I also keep medium gauge strings on this bass, I use Fodera medium lights on my Monarch, so the ESP is useful for down tuned songs and not just a back up.

Hey Lugzy since I know your face and you seem to be a real SHAFT who knows how to treat the ladys right you could let Goran have all the beans and you could have all my Groupies (remember also to give good Slaps & Pops )- but not the one that I have met this week end.... damn - this lady was sent from heaven (and normaly I don't think stuff like that ) - true magic is going there....

btw. here's a funny pic from that night - she kinda frightened a bit when the mist evaporated .... ... but that's ok .... the next day she was my roadie and carried my Fodera around

I heard a strange sound kinda like wedding bells when your post arrived!! Dude that is the strangest stage mist I've ever seen, it looks like it's stuck to the front of your face, so I guess it must be love if she's still smiling when the mist clears..You heartbreaker..Haha!!

Christian, are you saying you don't play your Fodera basses for alot of your gigs because the sound is too high quality for the type of gigs your playing; Or because you think they're too high value in money terms to take to most of your gigs?

I love my Fodera but 75 % of my gigs I play a lower price instrument! Mostly because the Fodera is too good for some gigs

Problem solved. Some kinda cheap on sale $399 ibanez 5 string from gc on my way home tuned up e to c with fodera strings. Sounds fine aside from the high frets, dead notes and binding truss rod - all is well. punchy little bastage.

I hear ya, but I wouldn't walk around in some of these places with a wad of 10k in cash showing either. Maybe I'm paranoid but hey you just have to feel good about your own decisions whatever they may be. Cool.

Most people don't know a Fodera from a Fedora, and situational awareness is key. Bad stuff can happen...but playing a cheap Ibanez on a gig pretty much guarantees bad stuff will happen

Funny a friend of mine calls my bass a foderas fedora. I'm just not the type to correct him so I just enjoy the humor. The16 year old kid in Gc knew what a fodera was though. This junker will hold me until my bolt on build is done next year. When I'm done Ill donate it to some youngin'

I can't play a junker, but I have felt a bit nervous playing my Fodera at some raucous bar gigs the last year and have put some dinks in it for sure. I didn't design it for those gigs that but it ended up being my only fretted bass for a while. I'm looking forward to using it more selectively soon!

I have a Callowhill Junk coming in a few weeks; while not a cheap bass I don't feel like I'd be as worried about it. Also picked up a Fender P 5 a few weeks ago that I'd take to the lowest of the low gigs any day (and isnt bad for $1200).

If you're like me, chances are you're not playing arty music (i.e fusion jazz) in those places and hence more conventional and less expensive designs work fine. Nobody will be upset on a rock/ blues gig if you don't bring a Fodera. (Of course Tommy Shannon sounds killer with his!)

Put another way, if I owned a Ferrari I might not drive it to work everyday but I drive my BMW without much concern.

I use mostly my Fodera when I play my own music or other bands where I play fusion, world, jazz, funk. For more pop/rock gigs which I do a lof as sideman I play a J or P style bass because it's suits the music best

Man, that's so funny but true..

I was 14 when I played my first paying bar gig. I played $2-400 used junk until I was in my mid 20's and could afford my first decent bass, a $800 Spector.

Other than some buzzing when the humidity changed nothing bad ever happened other than I learned how to cut nuts, file frets, adjust truss rods, etc. It just didn't sound great but it sounded fine. Just tools in the toolbox. By the end of next year ill have 4 foderas, so obviously I love them.

everyone in my band tours with crap instruments and leaves their nice ones at home. I bring my Foderas or Allevas no matter what. I HAVE crappy basses that are meant for the road, but I'm a diva and I want to play my nice basses. That's why I have them!

....two of my band members are known for wearing fedoras, and I'm always talking about my Foderas so much that I heard my singer call his hat a Fodera the other night! score!

My problem is that I don't have any crappy instruments left.... 2 Fender CS (one Master Built) and 2 Feodoras.... at least my basses don't look expensive
