Fodera Club Part XXVI

Hi all, I am a long-time Fodera admirer, and am taken aback by the amazing tone which comes from these gorgeous instruments. I often read about their amazing playability also. I am always tweaking my own basses and I am curious to know the standard shop setups done for Foderas – eg neck relief, and string, nut, pickup heights.

I just picked up an emperor standard special and your description above fits this bass to a T. Great feeling neck and extremely low and clean set up.

I hear ya man! I got mine a few months ago. I am the proud and honored owner of #9. I also have an Emperor Standard 5 #86 and a Yin Yang Standard #49. Love them all but was blown away by the Standard Special. It's my main gigging bass now. I would love to send her to the guys to get the neck profile I felt on the one played yesterday. It a have me the chance to compare the Standards to a NY Custom Dovetail. As good as the standards are I could see and feel the extra money that you pay for a custom. It also showed me that as good as my basses are there is that little extra thing that you get with the Custom that I did not experience with my Standards...and all my standards are GREAT basses. I do about 250 shows a year out on the road and it made me realize that there IS something else out there that is more comfortable and just feels "better" tan what I have... Another Fodera!! I am hooked so deep I don't think I m savable!! Lol

Peace,

T

I got to spend the afternoon visiting the shop. While I was there, a checkup for my YYS became a two hour troubleshoot and surgery on Joey's bench. The commitment to service is just without equal. I love you guys so much.

I got to see Vic's experiment close up. Let me just say I can't wait to see him live once he gets this instrument: I expect he could bow, thump, and tap at the same time. The body shape is also very unique.

Thank you Joey, Jason, and everyone else at the shop!

I spent the afternoon yesterday at the Fodera shop picking up my new Monarch 5 Deluxe.

First of all, my new bass is absolutely incredible. Wow is all I can say. I will post a pic tonight as I am just leaving NYC. I am 100% happy with how it turned out.

What a great bunch of people. I drank so much wine, played so many different basses and looked at so many different pieces of wood, I forgot to take a single picture.

Thanks again to Jason and the Fodera team!

YEAH YOU DID!!!! :bassist:

And which wines did you sample from, may I ask?

At any time if we are given a neck that someone wants to match to one of our instruments we can do that as long as the neck that is be recarved has enough "meat on it" and as long as the person wanting the recarve is willing to pay for the time it takes us to do it.

Hopefully that makes sense and, obviously, it's a discussion that we could continue diurectly through the shop.

Cheers,

J

I am in...Played a GREAT 90's Fodera yesterday and REALLY dug the neck profile!! One of the best I have ever felt if not the BEST! Strings were dead a couple of years ago so I didn't really get to hear her true voice but what I FELT was amazing!

SO I have a question for Jason...If I can get that bass sent up to the shop and measured in every way can I get my Emperor Standard 5 Special neck shaped EXACTLY like this one? Better yet can you shave my neck AND set mine up exactly like this bass? The setup was PERFECT for me....Everything about it was perfect for me....It really made me dig the Dovetail!!!!! OMG!! NOT sure how much of what I felt had to do with the Dovetail though? The string tension was perfect, the action was perfectly even from the nut to the bridge and low but clean. I typically like the lowest action I can get and still have the bass play cleanly with a moderately light to aggressive touch. This one was the bomb!

Thanks for any info you can share!

Peace,

T

AWESOME! I would definitely be interested in pursuing this and will give you a call tomorrow! Thanks and God Bless you guys for the work you are doing! I am totally in love with all 3 of my Foderas and currently don't even play any other brand of bass! Everything else is GONE! STOKED about the possibilities of a custom soon!

Peace,

T
