Fodera Club

Me! =) I love the sound of my Foderas when they are passive. I use passive in single-coil mode most of the time. You can hear the wood sing this way. Depending on the gig or tunes, I turn the preamp on with the EQ flat or just boost the lows a bit. The sound when the EQ is flat is pretty much a boosted passive sound. The pre is more of like a booster this way.

Here's the latest addition to my Fodera club:

Hey Mike I work my Foderas exactly the same way as you. I love the organic nature of the bass and pups passive..but I do switch the pre on and boost the bass only when I need a little more round warmth. I'm all single coil too. The Pope pre is cool though.

Thats a nice Fodera...with alder and 60s spacing ....I'm sure its quite different than the Beez ( is that what you had?). What do you hear different between the two?

BTW some very nice playing on your site.
Cheers,
Mitch

Thanks Mitch! I still have the Beez and its my main bass. I'm still getting to know the MG, but the difference that I've noticed is the bigger/huge sound from the Beez especially in the lower registers. I guess this is due to the ash body, 35" scale, and the neck profile being a little bit thicker than the MG. The sound is also more aggressive.

The MG is very mellow and can sound like a fretless. I'm just loving all the warm sounds that I can get from it esp in passive single-coil mode. I'm planning to record a sound clip with both basses just for fun in a few days.

I have not seen this but was wondering if there was a fodera club in the house? I dont know how they all work but thought it would be great for one to start so we can see all of those who have one on talkbass.

Can be in the club too!:smug: I've owned a bunch over the years but I currently own three Foderas. An Anthony Jackson Presentation (still the greatest bass I've ever touched), Emperor 5 (Chestnut), and Matt Garrison 5 (the first Buckeye bass).

Hey Jonno,

You're referring to the latest version, which is in my bass. The NEW Pope/Yates preamp is something totally different....revolutionary as far as onboard preamps go. The power section is like nothing seen before in an electric instrument preamp. And the tone section has some changes too.....both Pope and Yates are friends of mine, and I've known about this NEW preamp for over 2 years. There are 3 AFAIK in use.....Pope, Yates, and Joey L's bass. They are still trying to get them into regular production, as for now they are made by hand....tedious work. I spoke with both Pope and Yates about a month ago and there is still no official date for the debut of this design.

FWIW< the Fodera cables, the new compressor, etc....is all done by the new team of Pope and David Yates.

Aloha, Garey

I like the new mid switch....it gives some variety and control. Its not huge, but nice to have and I do use it.

I've only heard the new preamp in Pope's bass.....and of course it sounded killer. I would retrofit one into my bass when they are ready....

Aloha, Garey

Mitch,

Try this: Link Removed

Thanks!

ok got it thanks.

I really like the definition and clarity of the ebony boards. Its a little different than my maple ones. Nice tone from both....with the different classic wood combos on each.

Thanks for posting it!
