Fodera Yin-Yang Standard Wait Support Group

Right now I only have two basses in the house (having cycled through a dozen or so in the past year). The YYS and a Rob Allen. I like having basses that are inspiring to play and coax me different places. I'd also rather have a couple of stunning basses than a bunch of ok or "good" ones.

I like the YYS because it is a PJ (and that is my preferred setup in a mag pup bass), it has 24 frets, it plays fast, it has a wide choice of tones while still being voiced a certain way, and the workmanship is impeccable. Plus the company is full of great people.

I've bought/sold Sadowsky, Fender, Roscoe, Lull, Nordstrand, Zon, over the past year (multiple examples of some of them) and the Fodera has stuck. And I've owned EB in the past. Totally different universe.

I just ran into one of these YYS basses at an online retailer where I picked up my new bass purchase.
Had no idea how much it would cost, so I messaged asking for the retail price.
Now knowing the price, and knowing I would need roll 2.5 to 3 basses to buy one of these...
Like 3 of my Musicman, Warwick, G&L, Alembic, Gibsons......
I actually might consider it at some point?
I DO love the look of this YYS bass...very cool for sure.

The funny thing is the YYS I found is #23 and made in September.
My birthday is 9/23....WHOAAAAA!!!
Talk about meant to be!!! ????
Just need the $4,750 plus shipping, before they sell it... and I would be good to go!! :(

Wondering if any of you guys who already own one of these Bolt on YYS basses could give an honest assumption of why this might be worth letting go of 3 basses I mentioned above? What is better about it ? feel? tone? build quality?

Thanks :)

Man, if you can, do it... The way you talk about it, I think you will regret it if you don't buy it...;)

I hear ya...
I KNOW, I will be bummed forever if I let this slip away.
I mean when I read it was #23 and then saw it said made in September.
Almost crapped on the spot!....hahahah!!
I have won a decent amount of $$ over time with my lucky number 23...it has been good to me...so I can get a bit odd about that number I guess. :D

I just cannot see my parting with enough basses to make the almost $5,000 happen right away.
I have assembled one heck of a line up of basses in my collection. I would almost rather sell off a Kidney for the $4,800 rather than sell off 3 of my basses. LMAO :D :rollno:

Most likely it will be gone by the time I hum and hah over what to consider doing :(

Thanks for the input..This is one of those basses I can almost tell for SURE I would take to right away, without ever playing it before buying it.

well, you can only play one bass at a time. Everyone has their own preferences, but I hate having instruments sitting around that I don't use. And I only want to gig ones that I really love. That keeps my collection pretty small. Ymmv. Really depends on what you want out of your basses and there is no universal right answer.

True, not an octopus for sure.
But I play them all in a rotation. Not In any bands at the moment.
Not much time for that.
But play several times a day normally.
I would have 25 basses if the budget would allow :D :bassist:

Starting pre-production on a nostatic trio + album. In addition to our takes on jazz standards and other bits, I have wanted to do an arrangement of Elenor Rigby that is bass-centric. Worked up a first pass and laid down a rough track to give to the rest of the band. The idea is to have bass, keys, and sax take alternating bits of the melody line. At any rate, this is three bass tracks with the YYS recorded direct into Logic. There are no effects and zero post production except for a limiter on the master out. Nowhere near perfect (pretty much first take on each track), but it will get the point across to the rest of the band. It is a decent indication on how the YYS records though - I dig it. Bridge pup is favored a bit, just a touch of bass added on the preamp.

Wow, that sounds fantastic nostatic. I am wanting to compose my own jazzy version of "Across the Universe."

Edit- #55 is up in the newborns, so that's only 10 away from mine! :hyper:

I think Fodera should display #65 to represent the 60's. :p

Just curious as to when #55 got shipped?

If it follows the pattern I think it will be #66. Close but no cigar :D

Any Beatles tune is fodder for re-interpretation.

When we announced them in January, we promised to deliver the first 60 before the end of December. #60 IS indeed in the process of being completed right now (on December 7th!!). This might be a Fodera first...

Now onto #'s 61-90. We are giving the team a brief 10 day respite from Standard duty and will start up again on 61-90 the week after next...#61 and beyond should be ready ontime or ahead of schedule too...then its onto the Emperor 5 Standards!

Hi J,
Just two questions,
I got YYS 75 from Austin bass traders and I am expecting to get it next February. It should be on time, right?
Are you planning to build more than 90 YYS, or #90 will be the last?,
Thanks, best regards,
CC

Mid-February looks good as things stand presently!

Yes, we will definitely build more Yin Yang Standards...probably not until the third 3rd or 4th quarter of 2012, but there will be more. 91-120 may also use different woods...we shall see!
