Anniversaries only happen annually so "year" is redundant. It's "first anniversary".

I don't think it's only a year. It can be any specified length of time. Six month anniversary and such.

After some googling it turns out it its Latin derivation includes the word year but I'm fairly sure it's commonly acceptable to use it for other non annual events.
