For you married men......

For the first few months after my wife and I got married I was pretty conscious about my wedding band. It's fairly heavy as rings go, like One Ring heavy, since it's made from the same metal that's used in anti-tank shells. Plus, I had never worn jewelry of any kind before we got married. The ring definitely took getting used to.

And when I was playing bass? I took off my ring and stashed it in my pocket. I dinged it against some frets and the lower edge of the fingerboard a few times. But if anything, it was a little bit of a wake up call that I needed to clean up my left hand technique, and I shouldn't be laying my fingers so flat against the fretboard. Three years in to being married I'm pretty used to wearing my wedding band while I play. And my fretting technique has gotten a lot better.

I have a problem wearing my wedding when I play my bass ,whether practicing at home or at gigs, I find it extremely uncomfortable, my wife who is the singer on our band always wears hers on our gigs , she thinks I don't wear mine so the women don't know I'm married ..
do any of you guys find it difficult to play with your wedding band or is it just me?

I wear mine on my fretting hand, and I find it clanks against the frets or edge of the fretboard. So, that's annoying, as such I remove it.

My wife doesn't mind, she knows I am coming home after the gig. I did have a woman at the bar once give me a hard time when I told her I was married and she called me out for not wearing a ring, didn't believe me. I had to pull out my keychain (which is whereI keep it when playing) to prove it.

I work in a manufacturing facility operating heavy industrial machinery. I take mine off before work, usually have a short chain to keep around my neck, tucked under a tshirt. While playing, it stays on. My band is 8mm-wide tungsten, very heavy, I like the weight of it when I'm playing - bass or guitar. It's a part of my hand now and I only notice it when I am not wearing it.

Funny.....I have a very narrow band and I never notice it while playing. But being an autoworker....its off all day. I take it off in the car before I walk in to work and back on as soon as I get back in the car. While playing....I don't even notice it.

If it gets in the way, take it off.
If you explain why you take it off to your singer/wife and she can't accept that for the truth that it is, well that's her problem. And maybe she has trust issues.
A material item that only has monetary value should not hold so much meaning.
It is not the ring that matters, but rather the respect you have for your spouse and your union.

Thanks for all the advise guys... it's not really a big issue .. I was kinda of just wondering how other guys felt about it..I have been happily married for 15 months now.. I got a wife and lead singer in the deal. .. now if her sister could play keyboards........

I haven't read the entire thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned, but you should realized that wearing a wedding ring actually gets your more attention from women, not less, and your wife knows this.
