For you married men......

My wedding ring interfered with my bass playing when I was a newlywed. It always seems like it was in the way, clanking on the frets. I remember that I had an audition 2 months after we married and I think that was the only time I left it home for a playing engagement. These days, no problem playing with the ring. If I did have an issue with it, I know I'd keep it home because I'd be paranoid of losing it on a necklace or string around my neck in the middle of a gig.

My ring only bothers me when it's summer/hot/humid and it starts getting tight. In those sittuations I will take it off and put it on my key ring in my pocket. If I have my keys, I have my ring, but I wouldn't put it just loose in my pocket for fear I would lose it.

I didn't wear any jewelry at all for the first 20 or so years of our marriage. Partly, working in R&D, I was frequently putting my hands into boxes that had high voltage in them. After a while, I just didn't pay any attention to the fact I wasn't wearing a ring. Then, one day my wife explained to me that she would feel a little better if I wore the ring when out gigging in the clubs. I put the ring on and pretty much never looked back. To tell you the truth, I don't even notice it. Mine is maybe 3.5 mm wide.

I have a problem wearing my wedding when I play my bass ,whether practicing at home or at gigs, I find it extremely uncomfortable, my wife who is the singer on our band always wears hers on our gigs , she thinks I don't wear mine so the women don't know I'm married ..
do any of you guys find it difficult to play with your wedding band or is it just me?

I took mine off for our first two gigs and wore it on a necklace. My wife wasn't pleased, but I explained that it got in the way of my fretting hand. It's a lot more comfortable, now, and I don't take it off anymore. It just took time. Keep in mind, I hadn't played bass for several years when I got married and it was two more years after that I got back into it. You can suggest my first sentence to your wife and keep the rest of my post to yourself ;)

I'm not a ring wearer, never did until getting married. Initially it was a little funky, felt "funny" on that finger, I took it off for the first few gigs, got used to it, at this point I can't even GET my ring off unless I lost a bunch of weight. Wife was understanding regarding getting used to it.

No gold
No silver
No diamonds
Just us.
We do not own any precious metals or gems that were fought or died over.

That's a beautiful sentiment, but at the same time I don't think anyone confuses the symbols of their union with the union itself. If the last line refers to conflicts in Africa, and the "blood diamond" thing, I would set your mind at ease: warring factions in Africa try to seize control of resources in order to fund their wars with each other, not vice versa - they don't start wars in order to get the diamonds. They would be fighting anyway; if there were no diamond trade, they would be (and are) fighting to seize oil or banana groves or whatever else they could sell to buy guns with.

It can be an ugly world at times and yes there are a number of things we own that was fought over but we try to limit it and are always conscious of it.
My Birdsong has gold trim but not because I like gold, 9 months of kicking back and forth the design with Scott on the Cortobass resulted in the best balance for this instrument. Thanks for the compliment and your input.

My wife and I just celebrated our 20th anniversary last month. I have not worn my wedding ring since the day we got married (I don't even know where it is). I cannot stand wearing any rings.

And P.S. If one were inclined to be unfaithful, I have observed that wearing a wedding band is no impediment to doing so.

The only problem I've had with mine is that it gets sort of scratched up by the strings (It is an oddball stainless wedding ring). But no discomfort. I'm not sure, at this point I could even get mine off at this point. Please dont' judge me

I was in a wedding band once; my wife made our outfits.
It's ok to be jealous of All The Awesome.
