For you married men......

Two things: first, you're the bass player so not much need to worry about being swarmed by groupies; second, everyone knows that nothing attracts a woman like a wedding ring. :D
This! I think I get hit on more with my ring on. Then I strap up my bass... :/

Been together 7 years, two kids together, only been married a year. Wearing the ring doesn't hinder my playing at all. My watch... Now that's a different story.

I'm divorced. It was her or my basses... She lost.

Seriously, though, I never wear a ring when I play. I find it uncomfortable, and on either hand it ends up hitting the strings when I mute them, be it plucking or fretting hand.

I also don't wear a watch when I play. I prefer to be completely unencumbered.

Without saying anything hateful about women let me say this. If she doesn't understand why you don't want to wear your wedding ring while playing.... ****her...you'll never make her happy.

believe me, there are guys who feel the same way if you take off your ring. my ex-boyfriend felt that way even though he was the drummer so he was there for every show. my husband, who's outlasted him by many years, doesn't have unfounded jealousy issues.

i have several friends, not all of whom are musicians, who have wedding rings tattooed either across the entire top and sides of their fingers or all the way around (ouch!), and they look just like rings till you get up close.

I expected mine to be in the way when I played...never wore a watch on stage either...but I never noticed it after I started wearing it.
35 years...my wife never once questioned me, or my motives, when I told her I had a gig. It was always about The Band.

I always wear my wedding ring. It never bothers me and I'm not even aware of it when I'm playing.

Edit: It just occurred to me that my preference for a narrow ring might have something to do with that, I can imagine that a wide chunky ring might be more of a fret clacker.

Yes, I got a pretty comfortable band. It's oval shaped so there's no sharp edges and isn't too wide. It's extremely comfortable, so much so that I actually prefer to wear it when I'm playing!

Watches is a different story though... Off they go!

I had a problem with my ring for about a day when I first got married. Somehow it worked itself out quickly with just a little, "I guess I can't do that like that any more if I want to wear this ring." It was really just a simple and minor adjustment.

My wedding band is the only jewelry I ever wear or wore. That stuff just bugs me, and I don't quite understand it. The expensive kind, anyhow. There are basses and cars to be bought. What the hell does anybody want with expensive jewelry?

Never had an issue with wearing my ring. Most of the time I forget it's even on since I never take it off. I'm curious as to the OP's left hand technique that would make it a problem to begin with?

When I'm slapping or when I need to be silent, I mute my strings with all four of my left hand fingers. That's when a wedding ring would make contact for me, especially on a 6-string as it requires more finger "real estate" to do.

a wedding ring on a guy is like a seal of approval - married men are guaranteed as they have wives who have chosen to stay with them. also some women want a strings-free fling, and married or seriously attached men are safer that way. and there are women and men out there who just prefer trying to get what other people have.

a single buddy of mine used to wear a wedding ring when he went to clubs so he'd get picked up more, and it worked.

to the OP, maybe you and your wife need to talk about this. wearing a ring or not doesn't keep a spouse from straying - it's all about their feelings and what they do when they're approached.
No its not about straying . She's in the band with me..it's not a big issue .. more of her teasing me jokingly..but it bothers th the hell out me while I play. I see Jeff Beck playing with his on and think if he can do it how can I not.

I have a problem wearing my wedding when I play my bass ,whether practicing at home or at gigs, I find it extremely uncomfortable, my wife who is the singer on our band always wears hers on our gigs , she thinks I don't wear mine so the women don't know I'm married ..
do any of you guys find it difficult to play with your wedding band or is it just me?
So what kind of stuff does she think you're going to pull on a gig where both of you are on it? Man, you'd have to be super slick to pull that maneuver off.

I just got another one after the first one I had made a near-permanent ring around my finger. Doesn't really bother me. Once in a while I clank it into the upright neck and make some noise, but it's upright so that's OK.
