How many of today's drivers could actually make it around Monaco 78 times without crashing one? :smug:

Lewis made a comment on how Monaco needs to change to fit with the modern machinery. What some of you have been suggesting, above, is a much more elegant solution. Monaco is the most venerable circuit around (IMHO); it should not be modified, just slow down the cars for it, not too unlike how the teams fit different wings on the cars to accommodate high down force and low downforce tracks.

Seeing that there's rarely any passing at Monaco, how 'bout making it a time trial event?

Stagger the release of vehicles on the track (ala the Isle of Mann TT) so that you still have the sound and feel similar to a race. You could incorporate the pit crews by adding a pit stop or two (ala the NASCAR All-Star Race). The shortest time wins.

Speaking of which, no lack of drama at Indy yesterday. How can one Chevy team be so very close to the pole, with two cars no less, and then Penske needs Will Power to hit the bank shot just to get in the show? In any case, Scott Dixon is really good.

I have no real explanation except the cars and teams in IndyCar be extremely closely matched this season. But for a team like Penske (with all their experience and good fortune at Indy) to have trouble and not even be able to put one of their cars in the top-16 in qualifying? Surprising. They'll probably run decent on Sunday... but I'd put my money on Ganassi and McLaren if someone backed up the Brinks truck.

I realize IndyCar doesn't blip the meter like it did back in the 90s... but it's a shame it doesn't have a bigger presence on NBC's family of networks. Putting stuff on Pay-For-Peacock is lame.

And I'm not crazy about the qualifying rules for the 500 with the Fast 9 and the two days the backmarkers get to try to make the show. I truly wish the rules would be taken back to the way they used to be.

Okay... Grumpy Old Man is gonna eat lunch now. :smug:

Not an F1 story, but I'm absolutely elated for Helio! History was made today by one of the absolute nicest people in all of sports as he joined a very special club today. I heard Foyt, Unser and Mears were in attendance... hope they got some pics of the four of them. It was a great race, too! And I LOVE the strawberry milk to match the team colors! The whole thing was pretty dang cool.

If Red Bull is permitted to run it this weekend (and I don't see them being told they can't), this will be the last race the bendy wings are permitted if I recall the ruling.

As Mercedes and RB continues to whine and squabble, I hope McLaren or Ferrari beats them both this weekend... but it's not very likely. I'd put my money on the black cars this weekend if I were a betting man.

I'm not at all buying what the Mercedes team is saying about Lewis accidentally bumping a switch/button/knob that altered his brakes as he was headed into turn one on the restart. 7-time champ... best team on the grid... it's never happened before. Nah, that's a B.S. smokescreen fed to the press. :smug:

Kind of a crazy race today. I'm surprised the race was restarted as based on their previous track record; I would've thought they would've ended it under yellow. Oh well...

And I don't know if two incidents necessarily count as a tire issue from Pirelli... but that's just my two pennies.

Happy for Vettel. At his incident in the season opener, so many were lined up with torches and pitchforks, demanding he turn in his superlicense. Guy was quick in qualifying this weekend... and backed it up on raceday.

I truly hope the McLaren guys do well this year... but in all my years of watching motorsports, I've never heard of a struggling driver (in this case, Danny Rick) receiving more sympathy and understanding for "not being used to a new car." What is that all about???

Not impressed with Sainz saying his crash in qualifying was due to the domino effect, guys bunching up, etc. Sainz was in 100% control of his car -- he didn't have to be following so close to Yuki. C'mon, Carlos... be a man and own up to your screw-up and move forward. Weak.

Speaking of Yuki -- great weekend for him, Gasly and the AlphaTauri squad. Love that livery... and the firesuits are cool, too!

I'm super-curious how the Covid Delta variant (at least 60% more transmissible) is gonna affect the planet and its people... and yes, the F1 calendar. Singapore was canceled this week... and if things keep up, I see if Suzuka, Melbourne and maybe some of the other events are canceled. The chatter is COTA may get a second date. I'd still like to know if they can run COTA clockwise for a little variation.

I am still disappointed I cannot go to Montreal.....and perhaps next year will be more normal....Perhaps this is just the New Normal?

One day at a time....and let us continue to respect each.....and get our seniors vaccinated and stop their suffering

Very quiet here today......

I finally got to watch Qualifying....Yes!!!!
Very Exciting....Red Bull 1st and 4th

Saw some great driving to get into the top 10 positions....

Good luck tomorrow Boys!!

Lewis blames his car for him not being on Pole....I expect Toto had a few harsh words with him about that...
I know Guenther at Haas gets very upset when the drivers publicly dis the cars!

I was surprised as I didn't think the two-stop strategy would work.

... but Bottas certainly thought it did!!! :D Wow, getting lippy like that on the radio will not keep him in the Mercedes seat.

Red Bull looked rock-solid today. Even Checo did well with a one-stop strategy.

Ferrari qualified decent but ran like junk today, especially Leclerc.

Alpine qualified GREAT but faded a bit once the lights went out. Alonso still finished in the points... good run for him.

McLaren boys worked hard today.

Gasly had a decent race... he's having another good season.

Odd strategy by Aston Martin, keeping them out so long. They came out with a decent finish... just a weird way to go about it.

That Paul Ricard circuit is interesting. I love the long straights and the big escape roads... but the track doesn't really excite me, probably due to the lack of elevation.
