Formula 1/F1/Formula One

Indeed!

Speaking of tomorrow's sprint race, I'm pleased Max spoke up and said what he did about his displeasure with sprint races in general. I so much agree -- from what I can see, the drivers aren't gonna go all out in the sprint as they realize they need to preserve the car for Sunday.

But alas, F1 is planning on increasing the number of sprint events in the future which seems like a poor move to many.

Wow, what a crazy quali for the Brazil sprint race tomorrow. If anyone saw that coming they see things through a much different set of filters than I do!

Congrats to Kevin Magnussen and Haas for their first pole position!

I'd be willing to wager my most expensive bass in my collection that K-Mag won't end up starting Sunday's race from the pole. :D

Max may not like Saturday races, but his Red Bull will fly past the Haas on the first lap of the sprint.

To some degree with the red flag for sure. But he still beat 8 other guys who did hot laps a very short time later. You rarely see a "banker" lap work out so well in any case, eh?

Well Max took more than one lap and Kevin drove well to hold onto 8th.

I don't understand why you guys think sprint race qualifying is a bad idea. I'm loving it (double the excitement on a given weekend)! :hyper:

Maybe I'm biased because in my bike racing years, I and all competitors had to (and still have to) qualify in sprint races.

I am not against sprint race qualifying. It’s a perfectly fine method of seeding a field- except for the first race of a season.

With that said, I see no reason whatsoever to run both timed lap qualifying AND sprint race qualifying for a single race. Both of them are watered down by the presence of the other. Run one or the other but not both.

Regardless of the qualifying format, I’ll still be rooting for The Red Cars in every race.

Now I understand the dangers of damage during the sprint..
But I thoroughly enjoyed the race...
Lance Stroll is an embarrassment to Canada....well. to me anyway.
I am thrilled to see George Russel win! Good for him! I like him.

I loved seeing everyone so happy for Keven Mag!

It would be nice if Danny Ric ever gets back on his game....Good interview yesterday on Sky

I'm sure Lance is a nice person... but he lacks racing talent and good judgement and his dangerous on the track. But he is determined, even though his F1 aspirations are steadily fueled out of his father's wallet -- many determined racing drivers would've bagged their dreams of F1 years ago. Lance isn't the first racer to ride into the annals of F1 on his family's money... and he certainly won't be the last.

Sebastian Vettel is classy and diplomatic... and for the past two years, he's had a ringside seat for "The Stroll Project." I'm sure Vettel could write a novel containing his interesting observations while at Aston Martin... but of course, all of us F1 outsiders will probably never hear these tales. However, this might not be the case when Fernando Alonso shows up for work in Silverstone in a few months. :D

F1 is a traveling, mega-million-dollar soap opera and it's why we love to watch it. :smug:

Wow, what an ugly little prick Max is. I’ve always had a fairly low opinion of him, if I’m being honest. not that he stood much of a chance of ever being anything but a little ******* based on his dad and his upbringing. But Max showing his true colors today acting like a selfish little tyrant on team radio and then glibly talking about how he was happy he ruined Lewis’ race and didn’t care.

And really, I think Red Bull needs to exert power here, they have a lot more than max seems to realize. Mercedes isn’t going to take him, and where else does he think he’s going to go? He’s not winning a championship in any other car than a Red Bull or a Mercedes. Last time that happened was 2008.

Max is a truly horrible person, probably related to his upbringing as his father did some questionable parenting maneuvers.

However...

Max is a talent. The guy can drive... again, probably due to his strict upbringing (think the tiger moms). Max will have top-shelf rides the rest of his F1 career... but as long as the waters don't get choppy, Red Bull's never got turn loose of him... why would they? Christian and Helmut will put up with Max the Brat and his Nazi-looking father as long as the team is winning races and championships.

On a side note, anyone ever wonder why someone like Max who has the world in the palm of his hand would date a pit lizard like Kelly Piquet? She strikes me as a tacky used car with too many city miles... eight years Max's senior... Nelson Piquet's daughter... probably been around the garage area since she was a teenager... and she has a kid with Daniil Kvyat... ugh.

She’s obviously very attractive, but yeah. Stinks of something, like for as popular and exposed as Max is to the world, traveling the world with fame and fortune year round, he seems sheltered enough to not realize he could find a younger attractive girl without all that baggage or something.

And obviously Max has incredible talent and power, but my point is he’s not a world champion without Adrian Newey and probably a few other technicians. Red Bull could sit him for the finale as punishment and he couldn’t do anything about it. Is he going to try to get released from his contract so he can go sign with Ferrari? McLaren? He can’t win with any other team, but Red Bull could probably turn Charles or even Lando into a champion with their 2022 car.

Newey is beyond brilliant and had a hand in several world titles.

No way Red Bull sits him down at Abu Dhabi... or punishes him in any way... or releases him. Christian knew a loooooooong time ago what he was dealing with, the good and the bad. He saw how Jos was raising Max and heard all the crazy tales.

Red Bull has the hot hand right now and who's to say a handful of other drivers couldn't have won titles if at the wheel of their lead car the past two years?

Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Alpine (Renault) and Williams have all enjoyed top-level success over the past 30 years, but they're not who you want to have driven for over the past couple of seasons if you're seeking a title. No one stays atop the mountain forever. Just look at this summary of constructors from 2000 to 2020...
