Ricciardo is filling the backup role at RedBull next season. Plan isn’t for him to see many starts. I also thought about recommending Stroll, Aston may put together a decent car next year, but just can’t get behind him, either.

Because my opponent was the bigger loser in 2022, he had first pick for 2023... and he selected Gasly.
I'm currently looking at de Vries and Hulkenberg.
de Vries' résume is impressive and he was the talk of the paddock after scoring points in the Williams at Monza. He was in the McLaren system for a while... Toto is high on him... and the Red Bull brass love the guy. While the Honda-designed Red Bull Powertains are proven, the big question is how good will the 2023 AlphaTauri car be? Word is, AT is gonna branch away from their Red Bull big brothers with next year's car design. It'll be a hit or a miss with AT, but it might be worth the gamble. Yuki is not an option for me here -- the results just aren't there, he's immature and I would imagine is on thin ice with the team.
Hulk and K-Mag are with one of the worst teams on the grid. K-Mag's pole before the sprint race at Brazil was a bit of a fluke... but what's not rumored to be a fluke is next year's Ferrari power unit. Yes, we heard the same thing about the Italian engine last year... and after the Ferrari-powered teams impressed in the opening races, they were eventually reeled in by their competition. Regardless if the Ferrari motor is a success, I seriously question Haas as a team. K-Mag doesn't excite me, but Hulk has always looked solid over the past couple of seasons when he subs for another driver. Btw, Guenther seems like a nice guy, but how the heck does he keep his job? He must be feeding Gene Haas a truckload of BS.

A new wrinkle has developed in the F1 bets my buddy and I are setting up...
I suggested that if we had our thinking caps on, we should've each selected TWO drivers... a veteran and a rookie. My friend agreed, so that's what we're going with.
The veterans must've finished outside the top-8 in the 2022 driver standings. Why? Because it's way more exciting to pull for a mid-packer. The rookies (de Vries, Piastri or Sargeant) are self-expanatory.
We don't want to stray too far from our 2022 bets as this year was a ton of fun... but the main difference in next year is we'll score points with whoever finishes higher among our two-driver stables. Kinda nice in case someone blows an engine or gets "Strolled," we'll have a fallback driver. I like it!
The draft order will go as follows:
1. My friend chooses his veteran (because he lost more money in our 2022 bets)
2. I select my veteran
3. I select my rookie
4. My friend selects his rookie
For now, my buddy says he's gonna stick with Gasly, and that's a solid choice.
So now, I need to start mapping things out. I can take Alonso... I can take Bottas... or I can take Hulk... as it appears they will all be available. And I will have my choice of any of the rookies.

The article from The Race I linked above gave some interesting insight from those who follow the sport closely. I was surprised to see their writers rank Haas as high as they did.

Both the Red Bull and Mercedes F1 arms are currently involved in the next America’s Cup development cycle, and Max Verstappen took a ride on one of the test mules a few weeks ago, which he reportedly found pretty scary.

The chatter continues about Ferrari's '23 engine being stout. There's also a bit of talk about how the team has shed a nice chunk of weight vs. the '22 car.
In other Ferrari news, the beat writers have stirred up the fact that Charles Leclerc has a past with Fred Vasseur at Alfa Romeo/Sauber. They appear to have gotten along well back in the day which presents an interesting angle for Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard is blowing it off, but if the shoe were on the other foot, I wonder what the team dynamics would be.
The Honda name will again be present on the Red Bulls and AlphaTauris this year, with their engines being called Honda RBPT (Red Bull Power Train). Some say Honda is laying the groundwork for a return to the sport in 2026 when the new engine rules go into effect. As a side rant, I don't see why Red Bull didn't name their engine division "Red Bull Energy" or "Red Bull Energy Units" or "Red Bull Wings"... ya know, play off Red Bull's marketing which has existed for years.
Looks like many of the teams have announced their press events, showcasing their new cars for the middle of February. AlphaTauri has scheduled theirs to take place in New York during Fashion Week.
I'm ready for some new F1 action! Let's do this!

Cadillac has been a great sponsor/partner in IMSA racing. I hope that will be the case in F1, but I have a hard time betting on the long-lasting nature of an F1 contract with General Motors. Fingers crossed, it would be great to have a US team from a US manufacturer back on the grid.

Reading that Williams has signed a sponsorship deal with Gulf petroleum for 2023. Is it possible they could sport the iconic light blue & orange Gulf colors loved by many? After some of the liveries they've had lately, many are hoping so!
Now that this is in the works, I hope it gives Zak Brown the green light to move forward with a Marlboro-esque livery for his cars. That would be epic.
