Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

Hi everyone, just took delivery of the Future Impact last Saturday, and it sounds awesome. I've grabbed the sound files and stuff from the preset sharing thread and really look forward to checking them out! Along the lines of the recent conversation, what's the most efficient MIDI switching solution available? I've seen Nathan Navarro's video where he's using a small black pedal that looks like it has 4 switches or so on it, but not much readout for which setting it's on, etc, so I look forward to getting caught up on this thread! Thanks, all!

Depends on the rest of your board/pedals too. If you have multiple midi pedals, Strymon or Eventide, as well as the FI, the Soleman or the Boss (ES-8 I think?) are great for controlling multiple pedals. There are also smaller, more simple switchers like the Midi Mouse and Disaster Area pedals that will work well. Lots of options depending on your needs and budget. Looks great, but it's even wider than the Rocktron! 10.5"...
I looked up the Rocktron Midi Xchange ficelles; it has two expression pedal inputs. Theoretically you could set up one expression pedal to a filter on the FI.and the other for midi volume. But that is a lot if pedal board real estate. On the other hand a regular volume pedal off the board would probably be just as effective.

Speaking of small expression pedals I've found two that are pretty small and plan to use one with the FI eventually. The DOD mini expression is 5 inches and the MOOER Expline is just under that.

It's not clear what you're seeking. A volume effect that is controlled by MIDI? I believe all of the Source Audio boxes (most require the Hub) could be connected via MIDI and effectively turn any of the boxes into a MIDI controlled volume pedal by mapping the MIDI CC to the Output and using a clean effect. Most of the Line6 boxes are MIDI controllable and have volume FX blocks.

If you need a MIDI expression pedal to control some MIDI controllable FX Source Audio has you covered there with their Reflex expression pedal.

Lots of options listed here: Standalone MIDI expression pedal...

Challenge with these is the price. So, you want just a doodad/dongle to take expression > MIDI CC. You'll need an expression pedal, then the doodad, and the cabling, and whatever power sources are required. It adds up quick.

Back to the Line6 boxes. Those typically output MIDI CC, you'd have to find the charts to see what, exactly. But my recollection is their volume effect outputs CC7. Something like the M5 is small and cheap, has an expression input, and assuming it outputs usable MIDI CC might be good. Use it as a tuner and volume. It can also output MIDI PC up to something like PC26 so it can be used as a MIDI controller in that regard, too. Even has patch naming capabilities if I recall.
 
Hi. This my first post here so I would like to start by saying a big THANKS to all of you. Your efforts and cooperation on this thread was a big factor in convincing me the buy my FI.

I've only had it a week so have not had much time to mess with building new sounds (a lot to learn there) but I have tried some of the shared patches and tried tinkering with them a bit.

I have one thing I’d like to understand before I get really stated and that concerns editing the parameters on the pedal. I’m not clear how the settings on the pedal relate to the ones in the editor. I have already realised that changes made on the pedal cannot be read back to the editor so if I make changes to a patch on the pedal how can I make those permanent on the patch so that I can reload it later.

So in short:
1) How do the stetting on the pedal relate to the ones in the editor, is there a mapping.
2) How can I update my patch to match any changes I make in the pedal.

Sorry if I’m being a bit slow bit the manual is a bit unclear.

The company "Anatek" used to make a series called "Pocket Pedal" (IIRC). I know they had one box that had some dip switches that you could set for basic cc commands such as midi volume (cc7). Years ago I used to use an Ernie ball volume pedal with one of them all the time. you still see them occasionally on ebay for $30.

The way I understand it, the on-pedal editing goes from 1-9. 5 is the default value; 1 is half that value, and 9 is double that value. So once you have a list of which on-pedal parameters match the ones in the editor, that's a starting point for you.
 
Is there a way of making the synth side of the FI sustain like a keyboard with a sustain pedal? If so, which pedal? Ta

I would think you could accomplish this by using some sort of pedal that can hold your bass note that's input into the FI. Like an EHX Nano Freeze. Actually that would work after the FI as well, then you could continue triggering new synth tones through the FI.

Since the FI is monophonic when triggering with your bass (audio signal) I'm not sure what real value that'd have other than you could hold a specific note indefinitely. It wouldn't likely allow you to hold a note and play another on top of it. Currently simply holding the note on your bass already holds the synth note for a very long time.

If I knew how to ping him I would! I hope he will pick this up.

Holding a specific note indefinitely is exactly what I would like to do. No one wants.to hear me noodling over a drone!

Sustain could be implemented in a next software version, but it is far from obvious how. Should it be implemented for MIDI input only, or for bass guitar input as well? What should be the algorithm? Should a note be sustained forever when it is sustained, so other consequent notes will be ignored (since the FI is monophonic), or should it play legato all notes while the sustain is active? If it is implemented for bass guitar input, and the sustained not is sustained forever, it means that sounds that are built from two sources, a synth part and a harmonized sound part will fall apart of the two components for consequent notes. Could be especially painful for sounds using quick crossfade between the two.
