I found another thing to watch out for when loading programs from the editor.

I've been putting together a database of 99 edited programs to upload to my V4.
I work on them in banks of ten (except the first bank of course) in ten numbered folders on my computer.
Today i put all 99 edited programs in a single folder and checked to make sure I didn't forget anything and uploaded them to the editor.
No problem.
But when I uploaded to FL I got a communication Error.
I figured out where the load process stopped and removed that program.
Tried again and another error message. This time it stop loading again at a different Program. And this time at one of my favorites which I've used live for a long time: Quatschmacher's QM Ain't Nobody.


anyway i went through loading my database and found a few more.
But I kept the problem programs in a separate folder so I could trouble shoot them later.

NOTE: For the programs I don't create myself i keep the original name and mark it with my initial if I edited it , this is incase I want to go back to the source I'll know if i messed with it or not.

Next I looked at the problem programs and noticed some were by gastric. I noticed these programs tend to have a - in the name somewhere. Looking further I realized all of the problem programs had and -. on a hunch I removed the - and they uploaded up just fine. OK fine, But wait, what about QM Ain't Nobody? There is no - in the name....
I removed the ' and it loaded fine. so watch out for this to save yourself a headache.

TLDR: programs with - or ' won't load from the editor to the FLV4.

There’s always been a problem with certain diacritics (á, ü, etc) but apostrophes and other punctuation marks have always worked fine. Thanks for pointing this out; I’ll report it to @Andras Szalay in an email so I can include Zsolt in it. Hopefully this will be fixable.

Upon further Investigation I found some programs that do have a dash- but load fine:

_Tuck – Chameleon 02

these loaded fine

I believe the Gastric patches have a space on both sides of the dash but it is rather odd.

As far as I know these are unaltered programs and downloaded directly from the global directory using the editor, so therefore they would have originally been .pr3 that I loaded into the editor and saved the program to file to convert to the .pr4 format.

These programs are in 2 identifying folders that together are in a Zipped folder named "testsubjests" located in my google drive public folder so anyone here is welcome to use the link and download to test them for themselves.

I can’t see the link at the moment and can’t see how to enable the relevant cookie to be able to.

Did you batch/manually convert these files to v4 yourself? I ask as there is an issue with batch convert in windows editor v4.12.

no I did not batch convert as I already knew about the issue. I opened them in the editor and then saved to computer. then tried to load to FL

Thanks, I logged in on my PC and was able to access them and forward them to Zsolt.

It can.

Either set up one of the 4Control ports to send CC11 or CC74 globally which control the filter sweep. (See the 4Control manual on how to do that.) You can adjust the maximum range in the pedal’s Global Menu.

By default, one of the 4Control ports sends CC1, so as an alternative you can use a Flexi with CC1 selected as the source and map that to VCF FREQ slider in the FI editor.

Is there a video tutorial or some sort of guidance on how to navigate parameter setting in the editor? I've spent hours reading the manual/tinkering and I cannot figure out how to easily load your MF-101 program and modify it so the expression is mapped to VCF FREQ. I'm totally lost. I can load presets and cycle through them on the pedal, but I can't see a way to set VCF FREQ as the "Range Control" in Flexi 1. Also, I would expect the + and - in the upper left of the editor to select presents uploaded to FI in the editor, but they have no effect and it's not always clear if the editor is modifying the active preset I selected on the pedal.

Haven’t got loads of time to go into detail but sounds like it might be worth going back and reading some more, particularly on preset navigation, the Manager, what range control is, flexis.

In brief:

+/- keys in the editor only select patches within a folder on the editor; they have nothing to do with the pedal. If you want to navigate patches on the pedal, use the Manager and its “download from FI” button then use the tiles to select patches. Any modifications you make will need to be written to the pedal afterwards by using the “upload to FI” button (you can highlight just the tiles you want to upload as opposed to all 99).

The only way to use the +/- keys to navigate what’s in the tiles would be to open the temporary cache folder where the upload is stored, but that may cause problems.

(Not a bad idea to have +/- keys navigate tiles when the Manager tab is open; I’ll suggest that as a potential improvement.)

Not sure that I can explain expression control any clearer here compared to what I’ve already written above and in the manual:

Method 1:
Program your expression-capable MIDI controller to send CC11 or CC74 via expression. Use the FI’s Global Settings Menu to set the VCF range to +/- 1, 2 or 4 octaves as desired.

This is a global control for cutoff and works in every patch.

Method 2:
Program your expression-capable MIDI controller to send CC1 (or another of your choice) via expression. Then in the FI editor, edit the patch by mapping a Flexi to the VCF FRQ slider. Set CC1 (or your chosen CC) as the source and use the learn function to set the desired minimum and maxim positions on the slider.

This is a per-patch setting.


In the context of Flexis, Range Control has a specific function using external control (aftertouch, pitch, etc) and isn’t needed in your example.

I found what I thought was a great preset (86) for a Stevie Wonder tune my band is playing, and then when I broke it out at practice last night, my bottom end completely dropped out.

When I went to adjust the wet/dry settings through the balance settings on the pedal, dialed in completely dry, there was no clean bass signal, just silence. Have a gig tomorrow and don't have a lot of time to mess around with this and may look to use my Boss LS2 to blend the two sounds. Just wondering if this is just a setting that I could fix in the editor, such as in the mixer section. Just don't have the time right now to hook this up to my computer and mess around with the software. TIA

That is one of my factory patches (and the one I use as my default startup sound). It has no dry bass programmed into it as I originally designed it for triggering via keyboard.

If you edit the patch, just turn the INSTR slider in the Main Mixer to maximum and save the patch, then write it back to the pedal. This will then allow you to dial in the balance of wet/dry to taste on the pedal.

Although, when you said “bottom end dropped out”, did you mean it was sounding fine at some point but then disappeared after adjusting? If so, could you have perhaps adjusted the tilt EQ by mistake? If the parameter dial was pointing at “effect” when turned then you may have increased travel while cutting bass. If you’re using the FI I or v3, it quite easy to point at the wrong parameter due to the lack of detente. If that is what has happened, simply set the “effect” parameter back to 5 on the pedal (if using I or v3); if on v4, you’d set this to 0.

Bottom dropped out when I engaged the pedal, it was more noticeable when competing with rest of band than at home playing solo. It's also the V4, and I had success blending the dry signal on other presets and is why I was scratching my head on this particular one.

Fair enough. Two. Things to note about that preset:

1. It’s pitched an octave down I think so that it can be triggered higher up the neck. If you want to play it in the full bass range with the dry at the same pitch, you should adjust the VCO transpose slider;

2. Use expression sending CC1 to access the variation I built into it - it brings in a second oscillator and adjusts some other stuff.

I'm an old school Boss analogue pedal guy and this is WAY over my head - especially without video help. I bought this because I heard users made some incredible sounds to download. I asked FI through an email and they sent me here (which I think is strange that they couldn't help me). I even followed the directions that said "click help" inside the Editor program if you need it - well, I can't even find that! It's certainly not in the drop down menus at the top left where it would normally be. I have 20 more days to send this back if it proves too complicated for me. I'm confident I could follow a step by step video though. Please help! Thanks.

Is there any videos out there on linking a fi v3 with a Morningstar mc6 I'm not great at the midi thing. I just want to have 6 presets at my feet with it. Maybe more if that's possible
