I think it's just if one is used to a flat surface on the edge like a Jazz pup the screw notch might feel a little weird. I always liked on the Bartolini Jazz pups the edges were even rolled over to make a smoother surface. I only use the pup for a thumb rest if I'm playing on the B string(or E string on a four) so a separate thumb rest just gets in my way. No biggie, just those little things! Had a nice chat with John at the new Monterey store, good to see it's going to still be a landing place for your basses. Cheers, Jim

The next 5-string John is getting in is going to be a spectacular quilt top cherry sunburst 5-string. Should be within a month.

i have a build in process that's gonna pair delano's to a glock pre. will post an opinion when it's done.

hehe.. this is a bit more than a pickup swap.

always loved the balance of your q5 from your modulus days. the 17mm spacing at the bridge and 2.75" at the 24th fret was a smidge narrow for my liking. so basically took one of your maple necks and put it on a q5 body (cocobolo top/alder back).

this bass is my #1.

picked up my first gould back in '99 (red & gold one - nicknamed "ronnie") so been diggin' on geoff's creations for a while now.

the one you're inquiring about is one of geoff's last creations with a red cedar body. brilliant, clear tone and light as a feather.

drop geoff a line! i'm sure he would be more than happy to do another fiver in a rainbow-trout finish! ;)

The Modulus Wide 5 was 5 strings on a 6-string neck, and the spacing came out to something like 21.5mm. (There's one for sale in the classifieds at the moment...)

once i picked up a modulus m-92 5 back in the early-mid 90's, i abandoned playing fours. having the 'b' string became part of me.

tried 6-stringers but personally don't need the upper-upper range. it'd be nice to stay in the first position with a sixer and never venture past the fifth fret but not my cup o' tea. plus the extra upper string gives me fits... :***:

the black & maple one (nicknamed "draven") started off with an emg mm5 in the sweet spot. tone wasn't moving me so i dropped in a bartolini married to a bart pre. spoke to me a bit more but wanted a bit more bark so installed a skinny bartolini dual coil in the bridge position. gave it more presence and 'zing'.
