Edit: The guy that used to be in charge of the numbers hasn't been active on TB in many many years and nobody has taken over. The last number(s) given out were in the early 380s.

Just bought my first G&L.
A 2006 special order SB-2 Fretless.
#6 neck, ebony board, matching HS, etc.
Great bass...Hope to add an L-2000 to the collection sometime.

Huh...never seen a lined fretless of that vintage, only ones with blank ebony boards, without dots.
I'd have to say this is a conversion.

My bass instructor has a lined fretless L-2500, but oddly enough, the dots on the side of the neck line up with the fretlines, not the center of the "fret" like on a fretted bass.
It sounds GREAT though. Here's a clip of him playing it:

The dots should line up with the fretlines on a G&L factory made fretless.
(As opposed to the center of the area between the frets, as on a standard fretted instrument.)

Well, not always. I bought my fretless L2000 new and it has side dots where the side dots would be on a fretted bass.
I would guess that G&L is not always consistent on this. Boy, am I surprised!

Huh...that, to me, seems to be a mistake, and I would have sent it back.
I've had three G&L fretli now, and all had dots where the frets would have been.

My UN-lined fretless L2500 has side dots where the fretlines would be. But I've seen very few lined fretless basses of ANY make who have dots at the line marker positions. Generally, the dots on a lined freltess are in the normal position.
Now it's possible that someone had lines put on their un-lined fretless, which would explain why the dots are at the lines on Chad's teacher's bass (which is identical to my fretless L2500, except the lines...).

Well, for me, it was good. I was also playing a fretless 1978 Fender P at the time and it had the dots in the same place. I was used to that.
As you can guess, the inevitable happened: I needed the cash and sold the P. But the L2000 is still here. I even had it epoxied.
I own 6 G&Ls and that one is just so...nice.
