Agreed on the point. I really like the old-school design better: NORMAL headstock, control plate, black crinkle.

That said, they are so damn great sounding and playing that I really don't care what anyone else thinks of the look. Or myself, for that matter.

I have tried few out and agree about the sound and playability. That's why I really want to own one. I just think they have a butt ugly headstock that looks like something an old lady would like.

Funny, I always looked at any "original Fender style" headstocks as cheap and clumsy mock ups of an upright's headstock. I do like the more modern and pronounced look of today's G&L's much better. On their strat style guitars I agree it looks a bit out of place to me, too.

My local music store that I like to support is a dealer and then only other company he has is ESP. So, I'm kind of stuck and that's why I was wondering if anybody had any pictures of any alterations they had done to the headstock.

"Alterations" to the headstock? Really? I bet you won't see many. I doubt many people are zany enough to destroy the value of their bass over a little cosmetic detail like that.

But, this is Talkbass so..

I sure prefer the earlier headstock, but, then again, some people hate the Alleva headstock.
Just goes to show, you can't please everyone.

Back then, when I had an '82 L1000, I much preferred the old one. But the "new" one (I guess I'm getting old when I consider an almost 30 year old design to be "new"...) has grown on me over the years. I look at old pictures of me with the '82 and I don't like it as well. I'd sure love to have that bass back though.

I'd love to have some of the hair back too.....
