'04 L2000 TRIBUTE, '81 L1000, '81 L2000E FL, '83 Passive EL TORO

These basses are all passive:
L1000 and EL TORO with stock electronic,
L2000 and L2000e FL are modded with inner single coil and OMG on each pickup.

I dig the MFD sound!!!:bassist:

Very nice. Can i ask which one you reach for the most for your own playing. The one you are closest to. I have 3 basses and its not the prettiest or most expensive that i mostly grab. The most playable.

Actually, my main bass is the L1000.
The L2000e is very nice, but i'm a beginner as a fretless player!
The El Toro has a thunderous sound, but is the heaviest and stay at home most of the time.
The L2000 Tribute is a nice alternative to the L1000, with a clearer sound. I use it often because she has less value than my vintage G&L and is the lightest.

Found a tribute in 2010 and played that for awhile, but it just made me want one with the #8 neck, k-switching, a little less weight and in a cool finish. This is definitely the trifecta. Or the quadfecta.

That is an incredible bass. I would have kept it if I could have when I had it, and I really wanted to buy it back when it came up for sale, but I just didn't have the means. You're lucky to have that one, and definitely hold on to it!

I have found a suitible replacement though, this is my '82 L2000E. I love this thing.

I ask because most times at home i will grab the less expensive Kramer over my Fender jazz or L2k. The Kramer was my first bass and i am "connected" to it. Also very playable. Although far from the nicest. That is a beautiful collection you have.

I called a G&L dealer & they said they are a special order company or whatever so they dont have much stock but they just got this prototype bass in...

10.85 lbs! Holy moly ! Wrong body color & neck for me... but I may just see how it plays... sitting down !

Sooo, I got the JB in this week. I have to wait for some sun for pictures.

I gotta say it's a bit of a letdown. After dropping the saddles all the way down, the action is still a bit too high for my liking. It looks like I'll be doing a shim on it. In this regard, my Tributes are better than the USA bass. My trib SB-2 has very low action without buzzing...and without a shim.

Also, the D and G strings don't line up very well over the pickup poles. They're offset to the inside. As a practical matter, that won't make a big difference, but I'd still expect better from an instrument of this level. Again, my Tributes don't have that little issue. Neither does my Squier CV jazz for that matter.

For the string alignment, I may stick a penny between the A and D saddles to bring the strings closer to the poles.

The good side is that it sounds wonderful and rest of the fit and finish are quite nice.

I have to say though that my Tributes seem to have better attention to detail than the JB.

One off cutaway L-2500 a total beauty wow. It is heavy dont get me wrong, its noticeably thicker. The tone is fantastic wow. Great aggression that my Sterling HH Mahogany doesn't get. Its got a great top end, beautiful treble response without being overly zingy, sweet at Kjung would say. Fantastic lows & very present mids. I was the first to open the box. Its minty fresh. They said they had a ton of interest in it already, its only been at the shop 2 days.

Cool stuff, was a total treat to play it. I personally have a bass that looks just like it so I may special order my own regular L2500 later.
