G&L Club Part 7

Just picked this up. A bit of an impulse buy. Really fun and surprisingly versatile. Definitely needs flats. I normally play 35" scale active 5 strings, so this guy is completely opposite of that. It's absurd that G&L sells a USA made bass at this price point with a cheap gig bag but the fit and finish of the bass is excellent. Action is perfect and fretwork is impressive.

I really like what they did with the fallouts ergonomics. The forward bridge means that when you play it sitting down, the fretboard is more in the same position as their full scale basses.

I have a Sterling Stingray short scale and it's really awkward to play sitting down. Everything is so far left of where it'd normally be.

I agree completely. The ergos are not nearly as cramped as most shorties.

just got word my SB1 is being shipped back to me today. Probably wont get it until this weekend or monday. They replaced the neck and had it for 2 months. They said 6 to 8 weeks so the timeframe is right on par.

Im going to list it for sale as soon as I get it back. I love the sound and it looks great, but i want to thin the herd and for me, this one is expendable.

Sure is pretty though

Pretty indeed!

So, that is interesting. Replaced neck on a vintage SB-1 comes with no eye gouger?! Or is that the original neck? And not a trivial sum to get that done, I'll wager. Who knows, if you play it, you may fall back in love. Happens to me all the time. :help:

That's the genius of the SB-2 variation. Add a pickup super close to bridge to lighten up the fat P bass sound. Still get the P-Bass thump but with something extra.

Yeah, those new G&L necks with the dual action truss rods are primo. I had them replace the neck on my '07 SB-2, and I can't stop playing it. The rest of the band gets pissed when I just keep on playing at the end of a song. They just don't understand.

So after a few days with my El-Toro I wonder why G&L doesn't bring it back. It doesn't sound like an L2K. To me it doesn't even sound like a jazz bass. It's almost like a super articulate P-Bass to me. Way more bass tone than I expected. The pre-amp seems much hotter than the one in the L2K too.

Bringing the El-Toro back would have been a better move than the ill fated MJ-4 which to me didn't sound like a G&L at all (I even put DiMarzio model Js in mine to give it more kick).

Anyways, really, really liking the tone of this bass. A nice addition to my G&L family. Super happy.

Agree, that and the interceptor are great, and I wish they'd reissue.
