Question for you MJ4 owners. Anyone using an SKB case designed for either a fender jazz or p with their MJ4 ?
How well does it fit?

I tried a set of flats on my Trib L2K to "warm it up" and the bass fell out of favour with me after a while. Played all my other basses instead. Almost sold it. Then in a fit of clarity, put rounds back on it, fell in love all over again and kept it. Put a RW #8 neck on it. It kills.
Just for reference, I use Eden or GB Streamliner amps and Baer ML 112 cabs.
There is some natural warmth in my set up.

This is Tobacco burst. Easy to confuse tobacco with 2-tone burst.

In an effort to find a string I could string thru body and also take my L2500 I put on LaBella Quarter rounds XLs.

I was happy at first and still have moments, but then I play something with truer rounds and I miss that clarity.
The quarter rounds serve well if you really want something approaching flats, but not quite.

I may just give up on the ides of string through body and open up my choices.

Why not just order a preferred string in super long?

because not all strings come in super long, though some online string vendors do have custom orders for XL -- hence the idea of widening the set of choices if I give up the string through option.

I believe on M2500 or L2500 it takes just at or over 37.25 inches to string through body.

I don't know where you're located, but Bassstringsonline has a number of of super-long sets. I just got a Lull 5 which takes a B through the body (super long) and is otherwise regular 35" scale, so it wants a custom set, and they had lots of options. If you like the classic nickel round sound with a G&L, I'd recommend the D'Addario XLs, which I think is the stock string anyway. Good luck!

Funny, D'A half rounds are my go to string on my Fender, but the EB rounds that were on my L2K trib were just too much, so I went right to chromes (which so far, seem perfect for this bass).

Interesting. I'd still like to know what this '95 finish was officially called. Haven't seen many, another one of G&L's short-lived finishes from the era.

Are people having issues with thru body? The only time I struggled to get a string through was a .130 threaded Rotosound. Everything else fits well and has more than enough length. My A string has the least number of windings, but it's still 3+. Is it that strings are too short, or that they don't fit in the bridge?

I have a Candy Apple Red LB-100 on the way. My Emerald Blue Metallic SB-2 will be up on the block as soon as it arrives (probably for a stupid price since I'm in a hurry). I think I prefer the Alnico pickup to the MFD.

I like the SB models I must admit I never tried one and i'am going to buy one to how it holds up against an American P bass

yeah thats true i had a Tony Franklin Model and u have to be precise or you will hit a sour note then I bought a 78 Fender p bass and i started gutting the hang of it

I had a 2000 model I like the AST but if do get another I'am going to get an SB model

That looks a bit like honeyburst to me. I had a SB-2 from 97 that was HB but the edges on yours look redish.

I see what you mean. In the pic it looks a bit reddish, but seen in person there is no red there at all. I think I saw it referred to as "Western Burst" a long time ago, but the source was suspect.

Here's a '97 Honeyburst (long gone) which looks like a typical G&L Honeyburst, but totally different than the SB-1 in question.

Fender would have called that Sienna Burst. (??)

G&L may have called it that too, dunno. G&L had some rare finishes on their menu for brief periods during the 90's.

Ever see a "Goldburst", like this Climax? I've never seen this finish on another G&L instrument.
