My G&L stable: 1999 SB-2 in Clear Blue - 1997 L-2500 Custom in Clear Orange - 1990 ASAT Bass Signature Fretless in Natural Gloss.
The fretless arrived yesterday. It's my first fretless ever, and I cannot stop playing it... Wonderful. Stringed with TI flats.

Quick question: Can anyone tell if the L-1000 bass with mahogany body, rosewood neck, was ever painted Olympic White in 1981?
I have absolutely no clue about her history. She is a real player. Yesterday was Thursday practice with my jazz band and my mates begged me not to sell her ever...

Thanks audreycashin! Yes, at least one says it's a HOG and is white.
The reason I asked is there's a refin (red) that used to be white, available, but the seller says it's alder. However there are a few choice chips in the finish that let the wood shine through. And in the pics it looks like the wood is mahogany. The asking price is still higher than what I paid for my 1983 Hog Wunkay that's all original. So I will try to see if the guy can be talked down on the asking price. then of course I need to see the bass and weigh it for myself before I can commit.
And since it's a sub-par refin job, I might want to restore it back to Oly White, which would be added cost.
(And, these are rare where I live)

Well they definitely put solid colors over mahogany bodies then. White and black are not uncommon.
The rosewood board isn't typical of '81, as '82 is when rosewood shows up as the default "darkwood" for boards, replacing ebony. Not to mention the confusion over the "chocolate colored" ebony that is often mistaken for rosewood. But '81 is one of the transitional years, so rosewood is a possibility, especially for late '81. Along with "mixed" hardware....part chrome, part flat black.
It's all very confusing and only a total geek would bother to pay any attention to such minutiae. Wait, did I just say that out loud?

Not that I needed another LB-100, but when I found the new RT Collection I came down with a serious case of GAS 
A long story short, earlier this week I ordered one in the RT Plum Crazy...
AND, in keeping with the muscle car theme, I plan of installing a SB1 MFD pickup in place of the original. Not only will it make the bass more "muscular," but also make it different enough from my other LB100 to justify having two
Does anyone know if the MFD is a direct replacement, or will I have to modify the pickguard?

I, and others including Chef & HowardA, have dropped MFD split-coils into other mfrs basses that use a standard P pickup, so I can't see why you wouldn't be able to drop one in an LB-100.
