I like that video, but don't know for sure exactly where the pickup is positioned. The Fender pickup does sound right. I think.
I've Matt Freeman P on its way to me. I've been intending to put a Dimarzio Model P into it, but am wondering .....
Im guessing its the standard P location. 1/2" toward the bridge would offer slightly more harmonic content, or focus, or whatever along those lines. Probably not a huge noticable diff.
I've has SB-2s. Recently I installed an MFD split in a friends Ibanez P bass which I believe is the standard P locale. From what I recall, there was little difference in the split sound.

Is this something different than an off-the-shelf LB-100?
(If so, please explain. I struggle to keep track of the G&L kinds of pickups available over time, and their location on the different models and, IIRC, some have changed location over time.)

I say go bold & black ! the Sans pick-guard just doesn't get it for me with the sparkle job & solid color.... solid painted instruments need something to break up the lines a bit IME. Just like the clean look of the black over the tort. If the body were wood grain or a burst of some sort I might be inclined to get some tort.
LB-100 has a vintage-style alnico split coil, not an MFD.

I just visited some bass friends up in Virginia. One has both a Mike Dirnt P and a Fender American Professional P that he put the MFD P pickup in. It sounds great! We had my Matador there (2 MFD P's) and they sounded pretty dead on. The Dirnt is a maple body, so it was a bit brighter, but all 3 sounded very similar. The pickup has a distinct tone across the basses.

Ha, I'm not gonna hold my breath for another G&L Tribute bass at $299 regardless of model. Why I grabbed it (as did my guitarist who wanted a better bass to mess around with than the old Peavey he had).
I got to play a Kiloton Tribute model recently, and that led me to ordering a new Kiloton build (USA option level). Can't wait to get it.

I like the black and the tort equally. You can't go wrong in any of the 3 ways with LPB.

Nice video, @LowEndLobster. Unboxings are fun and are kind of like vicariously getting a new bass. Couple of things. First, G&L as a company has never made any serious commitment to shielding their instruments, either in the control cavity or elsewhere. Sometimes in the US models there's a single half-arsed coat of conductive paint, but it's never better than that. Buying a new G&L for me has always meant having copper tape etc. on hand. So your experience is right there. Second, I do wish you'd mentioned the embedded, locking bridge on the bass: it's part of what makes a 2nd-tier G&L P-bass distinct from other 2nd-tier offerings. I'm sure you'll be setting up action and intonation etc. When you do, I'm pretty sure you'll find that the locking set-screw for the bridge saddles wasn't tightened down prior to shipping. That has a substantial influence on the tone of these instruments, so it's something to perhaps consider for upcoming videos. Nice job as always. Thanks!
Did a show last night at a club with a great stage and sound system. This was what I was playing
I was going through a Tech 21 Sansamp Bass Fly Rig to the board.
It is my very favorite. After the show the sound man came to me and was raving about the tone of this bass. He said he set my EQ flat and let me go. This isn't the first time. I get more comments on this bass than any of my basses. The comments always come down to "every note is clear and defined".

I love that bass. I have lots of really nice basses, but this one is my #1.Every time you post that bass…

I have experienced that many times with an SB-2 in the system, and have heard it from the audience as well. I haven't found another bass like it (though I'd expect an SB-1 to be similar).
Remind me, please -- is that a stock SB-2? IIRC, 3 knobs indicates either an SB-2(T) or some other personal customization. Thanx.
I have 3 of these basses and they are way better than the price would indicate. I still need/want a white one.
@Lucky Chuck you are correct Sir, @Gravedigger Dav does indeed play that stellar SB-2T! It came from G&L that way...I don't have one yet, but If I did it would be the SB-2T.
