I agree, but then they don't mass produce their instruments, so small inconsistencies are to be expected. One thing I've noticed about their honeyburst finish is that many times there isn't much "burst." It's very subtle, rather rich-looking, like butterscotch, or...well...like honey. This bass looks good, plays good (I'm hoping), and sounds good--the trifecta. Congrats on a great bass at a great deal. Have fun!

I spent several hours going through the set up steps. Truss rod, saddles, intonation(Peterson strobe)and it's right where it should be by the book. It plays rather easy, not sure how to describe it being a novice. String tension is nice, B is a tad floppy but very playable considering I have the height at .20 at the 8th. I don't mind a teeny bit of buzz when fingering her a bit hard(that don't sound good does it? Lol)..
I'm letting it settle a day or two and maybe just maybe I'll go back a 1/8th or less on the Truss but right now it's perfect.
I believe 17.5mm.
They've been teasing/prototyping a 19mm version called "Big Chonks" on their social media for a while, but like a lot of things they do, nothing has come to fruition yet.
I'm not sure how that's typically measured, but mine measures out 18mm near bridge and 16 above neck pickup..

I have a question for the G&L gurus….
G&L states in a few older articles I found that "All 5 string Bass guitars have quarter sawn necks"…. Is this correct for this L2500 I have, I'm curious only from an education stand point.

I thought my JB Tribute was bad at 5.1 kg or 11.2 lb`s. A great bass but do they need to be so heavy?
It originally was not standard on early G&Ls. Then it was for a number of years. Then it became an option. I used to have years from a guitarsbyleo forum post but could not find it. Here is a thread about it that has a good headstock compare of quartersawn versus flatsawn. See post 18

Measure in mm's at the bridge from the center line of the B string to the center line of the G string, and divide by 4.
My JB2 Trib is 8.2 lbs. I guess the weights of these is really not consistent.
I've heard of some JB2 Tribs in the same weight category as yours.
On Sweetwater, there are 4 white Tribute Kilotons, 9 lb 2 oz - 9 lb 9 oz. And then there's an ex demo one, which is just 9 lb 0 oz.
There are 3 blue Tribute JBs, all 10 lb 5 oz - 10 lb 6 oz, and a ex demo which is only 9 lb 11 oz
Then there are the 4 white Tribute L-2000s, which go 9 lb 3 oz - 11 lb 6 oz!

Maybe a demo is actually a unit that was bought and returned, and the buyer picked the lightest one they had?
My latest mod was to replace my MJ-4 preamp with this Nordstrand one: 3 Band Preamps
The variant I used was the 3B-5A. If I had looked more carefully, I'd probably have gone with the 3B-5B which adds a passive tone. Oh well.
First, super impressed with quality of it. Really well assembled and fully wired.
I did have to widen the holes for the pots since it uses a wider nut than standard. Other than that installation was simple.
It has a passive mode and a selectable mid range frequency via a push pull pot on the mid control.
It's also 9V instead of 18v and has an adjustable gain control.
I wanted a passive mode option mostly, but the selectable mid is pretty sweet too.
I didn't really like my MJ-4 when I first got it. Seemed a bit anemic to me. First mod was DiMarzio Model Js which I like but they're definitely darker than the standard pickups. The new preamp goes nicely with those pickups.
And I like this bass much more than when I first got it.

I totally agree with you on that point, and I really don't regret having done the inner-coils mod on my L2K. This particular setting being by far my favorite!
