Ohhhh! I didn't remember who sent that after all this time. It took me a while to get it up & running. Some of the wires coming out of the circuit board were missing, but EMG had a diagram & I finally got it together. I had pulled that Seymour Duncan unit out of a Steinberger Spirit 5-string I had it in & put it in the LB100, then once I got the EMG put together I put it in the Spirit. I seldom play the Spirit--not much of a 5-string player--so it'd slipped my mind, but it works great in that. I never did put an EQ in the SB-2. Thanks for that!I sent you an EMG BT module from my SB2 that I recall you were going to install in yours?

Incidentally, my LB-100 has an MFD split coil pickup in it in place of the alnico and I get no distortion with that EMG BTC. So that was really good news, and it sounds great. I bought a set of knobby chrome knobs for it so it matches closely with the single knob on the volume pot.

Yes but less controllability. It would be more like an on/off switch which brings me to the point, if you want no pickup loading from pots why not just install an on/off switch that shorts the output out to keep things quiet.
I really need to learn once and for all that trying to understand metallic colors from internet photos is a futile exercise. These are three different retailers' photographs of exactly the same bass
That hasn't been my experience. I feel like I can access a broader range of tones in my SB-2 with the 500k pots.
I just went through this with Chandler for a guard for my late model SB-1. They told me....
Chandler (PH) haven't been the supplier for G&L since 2015. For 2015 and prior, they have the templates. For anything built in 2016 and later, Chandler wants you to send them your guard, and will not make a guard without having your guard as a template. Any G&L built in 2015 or prior does not require sending them a guard.
G&L fabs their own guards these days. They can be ordered through their website, although navigating to the right page may seem tricky, it can be done. I got a single layer black SB-1 guard shipped for <$60 and it arrived ~ 10 days. Great price, perfect fit, fast delivery. But...I have to say that the plastic that mine is made from is sub-standard to any of the Chandler ones I've had. The new one is soft, very easily scratched or marred. The fact that it's black isn't helping, either. I may order a tort one that won't show all the marks as easily.
Install tip: Leave the plastic film on until installed, or remove strings before installing. Even the slightest rub against the strings will scratch the F out of the soft plastic guard material. Just sayin...

So maybe their policy has changed since then or maybe it all depends on if they can determine the design of the bass hasn't changed. And after all, it's not a big deal to ship them your current PG to be certain. They say they do ship it back. Of course, while your bass is without a PG, it will render it either unplayable or looking very weird as you play it.
Why not call them: (530) 899-1503 This at least gives you a couple options.
On top of that, nothing says that the colors presented by your monitor are "true" either (unless it's been professionally calibrated). Ever printed something and seen differences comparing the printout to the displayed colors? Nothing says that either the printed hard copy OR the displayed "original" actually match the photographed object.
Stuck in the snow storm all day, had to be the perfect reason to upgrade the pickup in my LB-100!
@Templar and @jglunt , I think the US models seem to be much easier to deal with getting new guards than the Tribute models. Not sure why, I mean they're clearly mass produced instruments. You model one guard and you have the template for the whole run. Regardless, I still stand by my assessment that 3 weeks and nearly a hundred bucks is too much for a pickguard. I'll wait till this Spring when the Tribute guards are supposed to hit the G&L store.

Yeah I emailed them, that's what they told me. I only asked about an SB-1 guard though, so evidently they'll do guards for certain models. But via email, they were adamant about the mail-in template policy. I thought I detected a little resentment woven into their reply, as if G&L had done them some disservice by bailing out after all those years. There was a reference to G&L using "cheap materials" for their in-house guards. Know what?...based on the one G&L sent me, I have to agree with that assessment. As far as sending Chandler a guard to use as a template...eh, don't want one bad enough to jump through that hoop, despite the Chandler being higher quality (and they def are).

It's possible that minor fitment changes have occurred at G&L during the past few years on certain models?...hence Chandler's reluctance (read; refusal) to make some guards without the OEM sent in. When I ordered mine from G&L, I'm pretty sure they asked for the bass' serial number on the order form. On the form, there was a drop box to choose color, but no option for black. I made sure that I stressed "black" in the description box on the form. Even so, I emailed G&L immediately after placing the order to verify that I was getting the right guard, in the right color. Happily, someone responded next day to confirm that I would be. Weird that the site is not very easy to order from. Still, can't complain too much for $55.
I think you're exactly right in your assumption. Does G&L offer many colors? That's a great price.

No clue. On the order form, there were no color sample pics shown, and limited color choices in the mandatory drop box color selector. I had to 'select' a color that I didn't want just to complete the order. Kinda dumb IMO.
Yep, good price. But it's a single layer monochrome, multi layered ones cost more.
I recently purchased a G&L L-1000. I had thought a Jazz Bass would be best suited to my smaller hands, but the L-1000's nut is only 3mm wider and it has the same fretboard radius. So far I've been amazed at the tonal options of the MFD pickup. Great design. Someday, a custom shop version ... on that note, it seems that you can only customize through a dealer?
That's a guarantee. They male pickguards and they want to make money! They want to make it easy for you and me to get them that money.
It sounds like they have been burned too many times to assume the factory was able to hold tight tolerances, or, the factory changed PG dimensions at XXX serial number and they don't have complete records.
